Senior Manager, Membership and Development Communications

The Senior Manager, Membership and Development Communications is an essential member of the Development team that will responsible for all aspects of the Museum’s General Membership program, as well as donor communications and appeals for annual donors giving gifts <$1,000. Additionally, the Sr. Manager is the Development Department’s liaison to the Marketing and Communications Team and oversees coordination of the team’s communications calendar, campaign strategy, email outreach, donor newsletters, etc. The Sr. Manager works closely with other members of the development team and with programs staff to execute high-quality member programs, cultivation events, and onsite and digital acquisition efforts. This is a full-time, regular position that will report directly to the Director, Individual Giving and Major Gifts.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Meet and exceed fundraising goals tied to the general memberships and annual appeals lines, including renewals, acquisitions, upgrades, and donations.
- Manage timely, personalized, and strategic appeal cycles for the General Membership programs, including regular upgrade and acquisition campaigns, working with programs, marketing, and visitor services staff when appropriate.
- Execute a robust membership program calendar that includes exhibition tours, special events, and membership perks. Partner with programs and curatorial teams as appropriate to ensure member benefits are being used and optimize special membership experiences.
- Develop and implement strategic fundraising campaigns in partnership with development staff and the marketing and communications team.
- Serve as the development team’s liaison to the marketing and communications team, setting a comprehensive development communications effort and strategizing cross departmentally and museum-wide to optimize messaging.
- Monitor and track membership and appeal data in the Museum’s donor management system.
- Other duties as assigned.
A successful candidate will have:
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive experience working in development, individual fundraising, annual fund, membership, or marketing, preferably in a New York City cultural institution or nonprofit.
- Successful track record managing membership and/or annual fund programming that includes digital and mailed efforts.
- Superior written and oral communication skills, including ability to write and speak in clear, crisp, and compelling ways to articulate the goals, mission, and values of MCNY.
- Proficiency with donor management and research systems, and familiarity with the types of data necessary to support constituent/member/donor relations. Experience in Microsoft Office, Mailchimp, and/or Blackbaud Altru preferred.
- Ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines, both individually and as part of a team.
- Experience working with vendors such as mailhouses and list brokers preferred.
- Knowledge of current trends, patterns, and relationships in New York City arts and culture sector and local philanthropy preferred.
- Passion for New York City and appreciation for MCNY’s multi-faceted approach to exploring the city through history, popular culture, art, and civic engagement
- Curiosity and willingness to delve into multi-disciplinary topics connected with the city

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Currently, MCNY offers a hybrid work schedule with three days a week onsite (Wednesdays and Thursdays are mandatory) and two days a week of flexible work when possible. In-person attendance may be required for meetings and events, even on flexible days. This schedule is subject to approval by supervisors and may change at any time. Weekend and evening work may be required to support special events as needed.
This role requires being stationary for 50% of the time and navigating office and Museum environments. Proficiency in operating office equipment and strong visual acuity (close, distance, color, and peripheral vision) is necessary for tasks like data analysis and computer use. Travel within the five boroughs may be required.

The annual salary for this position is $80,000. The position offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, life insurance, 401K and a defined benefit pension plan, short and long-term disability, and an Employee Assistance Program, with options for critical illness insurance, accident insurance, legal services, and pet insurance. The Museum provides a paid time off policy that includes 10 days of annual leave, rising to 15 days in year 2, and to 20 days in year 3, plus 12 sick days per year and 12 holidays.
