IT Senior Systems Engineer Position Summary

The IT Senior Systems Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and security of our IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Windows Server 2019 and 2022, Ubuntu, and a deep understanding of Cisco Nexus & Catalyst switches, as well as FirePower and SonicWall NSA firewalls. This role involves the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our IT systems, along with implementing security best practices and providing technical support. The IT Senior Systems Engineer will also collaborate with the IT team on infrastructure projects and documenting procedures, and stays updated on industry trends to drive continuous improvement. Success in this position requires strong problem-solving skills, technical expertise, effective communication, and a proactive approach to infrastructure management and security.

 

What You’ll Be Doing as an IT Senior Systems Engineer

  • Install, configure, and manage Windows Server 2019 and 2022, as well as Ubuntu servers.
  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco Nexus & Catalyst Fiber and Ethernet switches.
  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot FirePower and SonicWall NSA firewalls.
  • Monitor system performance and ensure reliability and availability of IT infrastructure.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including patch management, system updates, and backups.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Implement and maintain security best practices and policies to protect data and systems.
  • Collaborate with other IT team members to design and implement infrastructure projects.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented systems and procedures.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to end-users and other IT staff.
  • Assist in disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure continuous improvement of IT systems.
  • Comply with all Federal, State, accreditation and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Consistently meet company and department policies and expectations including those surrounding attendance.
  • Exhibit exceptional internal and external customer service with all people with whom they work.

        What You'll Bring to the Team as an IT Senior Systems Engineer

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience as a System Engineer or similar role.
  • Extensive knowledge of Windows Server 2019 and 2022, including Active Directory, Group Policy, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Strong experience with Ubuntu Linux, including command-line proficiency and shell scripting.
  • Experience with Cisco Nexus & Catalyst Fiber and Ethernet switches, including configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with FirePower and SonicWall NSA firewalls.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
  • Understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VLANs.
  • Experience with backup and recovery tools and procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, CompTIA Linux+, Cisco Certified Network Associate, FirePower, SonicWall) are a plus.

  • Pay range of $115,000 - $130,000 annually, DOE
