Primary Objectives of Position:

Under supervision of the Area Manager, manages a team of Mechanics/Yard Operators with the day- to-day operation of the local service center in Seattle to include but not limited to equipment interchange, ingate inspections, chassis repairs, and facilities/equipment maintenance. Assist with managing the third-party vendors in the PNW. Duties include cost accountability and direction of exempt and non-exempt employees on site. 

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

o   Supervises a team of Mechanics/Yard Operators and communicates repair priorities and forecasting of repair schedules. Communicates pertinent information that may affect projected schedules to local and Fleet Operations teams. Adjusts available labor to meet schedules in concert with the Area Manager.

o   Directs Mechanics/Yard Operators to perform chassis repair pre-inspections. Decides best course of action for repair, refurbishment, sale, or scrap of equipment based on company guidelines.

o   Work with Area Manager and Mechanics/Yard Operators to ensure that repair and maintenance material inventories are on hand when needed to prevent loss time work or equipment downtime.

o   Monitors and reports tire inventories as required and facilitates ordering of tires as needed through MNR team.

o   Manages operation of company owned repair shop and storage yard. Directs Mechanics/Yard Operators to ensure all areas of the operations are safely and efficiently performing in accordance with company rules and guidelines.

o   Performs chassis post repair inspections. Determines that equipment is being repaired per company guidelines.

o   Monitors and accurately reports on service center shift activities including inventory, gate, mechanic productivity. Investigates and addresses productivity issues as they arise. Takes corrective action as needed.

o   Assists with the management of third-party facilities and vendors by communicating Flexivan priorities and holding third party vendor accountable for all gate and MNR, and reporting activities.

o   Assists with weekly service center performance reporting, trend analysis and period close narratives.

o   Assists in establishing, documenting, and implementing operational processes.

o   Identifies gaps with Data Integrity by reviewing, amending, and implementing operational processes.

o   Assist with the creation of facility and activity-based budget, controlling actual spend to plan throughout the budget cycle.

o   Communicates regularly with Fleet Operations to project equipment needs and the off hiring of equipment.

o   Implementation and oversight of company safety and employee health programs.

o   Identifies multiple sources for equipment and facility maintenance services and materials. Utilizes the vendors that provide the most cost-effective methods that also meet applicable company standards.

o   Tracks all company vehicle/equipment repair and maintenance schedules. Utilizes outside vendors to have vehicle repairs and maintenance done as needed.

o   Monitors building and property conditions. Takes actions as required to keep the facility in good operating condition, assuring a safe and secure working environment.

o   Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications & Requirements:

Experience

o   Flexibility to allow individuals with 2+ years of supervisory experience to apply.

o   Functional experience to include supervising labor, evaluating equipment damage and writing repair estimates.

Technical skills and Competencies Required:

o   Ability to collaborate with multiple vendors as they relate to chassis repairs and/or servicing of company owned equipment and facilities.

o   Ability to understand technical specifications and requirements for equipment maintenance and repairs.

o   Ability to understand Federal, state, local and any other applicable laws, regulations and rules as applies to employees, equipment repairs, and facilities.

Travel Requirements:

Mostly local, within a 75-mile radius of the service center. Occasional out of town travel for vendor meetings, company meetings, special assignments that may require overnight or longer stays away from the normal workplace.

Education Level: Some college experience or equivalent preferred. IICL certification preferred.
