Primary Objectives of Position

This position will oversee all Depot, Maintenance & Repair, and Area activities in the Pacific Southwest (PSW) region including the Carson Service Center and New Dock Depot. Under the direction of the Regional Vice President, this role will provide strategic and tactical leadership to the PSW Operations Team and will be responsible and accountable for ensuring corporate operational objectives, M&R policies, data integrity, and regional spend are executed per plan.

 

Major Duties & Responsibilities

o    Directly supervises the Senior Service Center Manager and Area Manager for the Region and is indirectly responsible for local area management and IAM mechanics.

o    Leads space and inventory management initiatives in all PSW areas.

o    Develops and continuously monitors reports/dashboards to analyze trends and provide recommendations for strategic resolutions and forecasting.

o    Utilizes data to drive decision-making, process improvement, and uncover performance, cost or quality opportunities.

o    Identifies gaps with Data Integrity by reviewing, amending, and implementing operational processes.

o    High degree of understanding for all Flexi-Van proprietary technology platforms to include but not limited to Depot Vision, CAMS, CARMA, and Gate/MNR mobile applications.

o    Leads all depot technological enhancements and/or improvements.

o    Investigates systematic issues and inventory discrepancies; handles exceptions as possible, escalates additional exceptions to relevant teams for timely resolutions.

o    Proactively offers solutions for production delays to internal teams

o    Ability to understand and manage the region’s performance to established KPIs.

o    Analyzes weekly service center performance reporting, trend analysis and provides period close narratives.

o    Assists in establishing, documenting, and implementing operational processes.

o    Creates facility and activity-based budget and controls actual spend to plan throughout the budget cycle.

o    Drives continuous improvement throughout the region by working with Sr. Leadership and SMEs from Fleet Ops, Pools Ops, Technical Services, and IT.

o    Cultivate and promote a positive culture within the region.

 

Job Specifications & Requirements

o    Ten (10) years of working experience in terminal operations, logistics, transportation, or supply chain.

o    Four-year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience.

o    Experience with collective bargaining agreements with strong preference given for direct experience interacting with IAM and ILWU.

o    Proven success working with all levels of management.

o    Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a bias towards factual and straightforward expression of issues, challenges, and resolutions.

o    Must have demonstrated a strong sense of urgency handling multiple priorities with a bias for initiating action to quickly accomplish objectives.

o    Pays close attention to detail, questions and positively challenges the status quo, and resolves ambiguous situations.

o    A willingness to see problems as opportunities and have a solutions-minded approach.

o    Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

o    Must be a motivated self-starter with ability to work accurately to meet deadlines with the ability to prioritize.

o    Must be proactive and self-sufficient in the role as it relates to day-to-day operations and management.

o    Must have attention to detail and ability to read and interpret analytical reports and data.

o    Ability to adapt to rapidly changing requirements.

o    Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
