POSITION – Civil Inspector, starting January 2024.
LOCATION – Reporting to the Senior Resident Engineer, the position will be at Newark Airport,
NJ.
SCOPE – Primarily airport and building concrete work, civil site work, paving work, drainage systems, structural, and maintenance of traffic, with some electrical, environmental, and plumbing knowledge.
REQUIREMENTS – Willingness to learn and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Verbal communication includes speaking with the Resident Engineer, other contract staff, and facility staff both, in person and via two-way communications. Ability to read and interpret plans and specs and prepare written contract administration documentation such as daily narratives (work reports), special inspection reports, daily time and material records, and document unit price work. Identify potential extra work issues and keep the Resident Engineer advised of potential issues. Review plans for constructability and prepare comments. Ability to conduct preconstruction and construction progress meetings, coordinate multiple work locations, perform inspection throughout the construction process, and coordinate for quality assurance inspection of completed work. Ability to actively coordinate between private business entities at EWR and or TEB, and the various departments within the facility to successfully complete Port Authority contracts and or tenant alteration work. Verify safety procedures are maintained. Coordinate contractor's work with the Facility as needed.

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited college or University is preferred.

Minimum 10 years of experience managing construction work, varied in size (projects ranging from $500K to $5 million plus) and complexity (multiple crew and crew sizes per shift).

Valid driver’s license required and ability to obtain a high SWAC clearance, SIDA badge and or Customs ID.

OSHA 30-hour certification required.

In addition to night and weekend shift work, ability to stay late or come in early
as needed.

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Expedition, OneDrive,
SharePoint, eBuilder, and MS Teams.
DESIRABLE-
Aeronautical construction experience.

ICC/NICET Level 3 Asphalt or Highway Construction; Special Inspector Certifications in
Concrete Placement, Reinforced Concrete & Structural Masonry, ACI Concrete Special Inspector; Work Zone Safety Certifications are desirable.
