Your Opportunity:

Walden Biosciences’ mission is to transform the treatment of kidney disease by reversing its progression and enabling and inspiring patients to resume their normal lives. Our focus is on developing first-in-class, highly targeted therapies for individuals living with acute kidney injury (AKI) or chronic kidney diseases (CKD). As a member of the Walden Team, you will have an opportunity to help us bring this mission to life.

As a key member of the BioTherapeutics (BTX) Group, you will lead the engineering, characterization, and optimization of novel biotherapeutics for renal diseases. Your role will also be the subject-matter expert of protein structure and molecular interaction for multiple programs. You will be able to have high impact on Walden research by implementing lab-based innovations with computer-guided antibody engineering, and by supporting portfolio expansion. This position will report to the Head of BTX.

Responsibilities:

·       Lead designing and engineering of antibodies, bi-specific antibodies, and antibody-like biologics

·       Develop protein purification protocols appropriate for structural biology, biophysics, and biochemistry applications

·       Characterize antibody and antibody-antigen interaction using methods of biochemistry, biophysics and/or structure biology for SAR investigation

·       Work closely with other groups, analyze collective data and insights to facilitate drug design and optimization

·       Propose new or optimized molecule/antibody designs based on structure modeling

·       Train colleagues with own expertise, and mentor junior lab members for bench techniques and computational methods

·       Manage CROs and collaborations by planning and overseeing external projects

·       Maintain inventory of consumables and reagents related to tasks

·       Document all research activities on electronic lab notebook

·       Stay up to date with current techniques and methods of the field

·       Present in internal scientific meetings, and represent group or company in external meetings

Qualifications:

·       PhD/MS in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structure Biology, or related fields

·       2-5 years of independent research experience in industry or academia

·       Passionate about biotherapeutics innovation, collaborative in a team environment, and creative in problem solving

·       Experienced in protein expression systems (mammalian, bacterial, or insect) and in protein purification techniques

·       Experienced in protein QC techniques and biochemical binding/activity assays

·       Familiar with protein structure modeling and related software

·       Experience in cryo-EM, crystallography, or NMR is a strong plus

·       Experience in antibody-antigen docking and in silico molecular interaction analysis is preferred

·       Ability to use scripting language to support data analysis is a plus

·       Highly organized in experiment planning and analysis

About Us:

Based in the heart of Cambridge, MA, Walden Biosciences is developing first-in-class, highly targeted therapies for individuals living with kidney diseases. Our approach is different -- we utilize a deep mechanistic understanding of kidney function in health and disease, knowledge of novel biological pathways critical in regulating kidney function and take a systems-based approach to translation into drug development. Our goal is to provide patients with real treatment options where currently few exist, and none of which target the kidney at the site of drug action.

Our culture is collaborative and entrepreneurial; we are driven by data and innovation. Our team is dynamic and has a successful track record in drug discovery. We strive to make the best decisions with the best available information, lead by example, and bring transformative medicines to patients in need.
