As a key member of our Research and Development team, the Head of Pharmacology (Director/Senior Director) is responsible for designing, leading, analyzing internal and externally-contracted projects that advance the pharmacology function at Walden. The right candidate will also manage a team of direct reports, oversee their scientific and professional development, and guide their ongoing research. The position will report to the Chief Scientific Officer.

Responsibilities:

  •  Lead in the design, execution, interpretation, and reporting of pharmacodynamic/biomarker experiments, and in the identification of biomarkers for potential development of companion diagnostics for inclusion in clinical research studies
  •  Lead the effort in the procurement, development, and characterization of models through collaborations with academic and industry collaborators
  •  Collaborate closely with other team members for the molecular characterization of models and suitability for NCE or NBE discovery and profiling
  •  Assist with writing, reviewing, and updating SOPs for all studies
  •  Assist with Research and Development projects to optimize and validate models
  •  Establish productive working relationships with external experts


Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or related field and a minimum of four (4) years of relevant industry experience, with advancement to management/leadership position preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in experimental design, animal surgery, data interpretation, and statistical analysis
  • Hands-on experience with in vivo disease model development and preclinical drug testing, with a demonstrated understanding of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
  • Demonstrated experience working with pharmacometrics experts in the development of preclinical models
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the preclinical drug development process, and experience in compiling pharmacology and toxicology reports for IND filing
  • Demonstrated experience in animal handling, drug preparation, and drug administration
  • Experience with in vivo kidney models preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, experience working in a team setting, and strong quantitative analysis skills
  • Highly organized, with the ability to multi-task to meet technology development and research goals
