Position Overview:
This role is responsible for developing and maintaining underwriting guidelines, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and enabling the underwriting community to achieve company objectives. It will assist company leadership in maintaining the profitability and performance of the insurance portfolio, while supporting data-driven decision-making processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of underwriting practices for global commercial property and casualty insurance, strong leadership and communication skills, high attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of underwriting excellence and achieving profitable results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and ongoing refinement of the global underwriting governance framework for global property and casualty lines of business.
- Establish and monitor underwriting policies, authority structures, and risk controls across multiple teams and lines of business. Ensure consistent application of underwriting standards in line with internal, carrier, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular audits to assess adherence to underwriting standards and quality of underwriting.
- Lead remediation efforts and corrective action plans in response to governance gaps or control breaches.
- Collaborate with underwriting, risk engineering, claims, product compliance, actuarial, and legal teams to proactively manage underwriting risk exposures.
- Mentor Underwriters on best practices and support their achievement of underwriting objectives.
- Develop and maintain governance and portfolio management dashboards, KPIs, and risk metrics to monitor performance and compliance. Prepare regular reports and dashboards highlighting key metrics (loss ratios, premium trends, retention, etc.).
- Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities within the portfolio to support underwriting strategies.
- Collaborate with underwriting teams to ensure alignment between portfolio strategy and frontline underwriting.
- Support data quality assurance efforts; work with data teams to ensure accuracy in portfolio-level reporting.
- Support annual portfolio management plans and activities.
- Assist Product Management & Technical Underwriting Excellence leader with efforts related to underwriting training, learning, and development including but not limited to underwriting competency frameworks, benchmarking, measuring, and reporting, identifying and addressing skill and knowledge gaps, facilitate training, and support the new hire onboarding process.
- Participate in company projects, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Business Management, or a related field; advanced degree or professional designation (e.g., CPCU, ACII, AU, CRM) preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in underwriting within the Property & Casualty insurance industry, including 5+ years in a governance, portfolio management, or leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of Property & Casualty underwriting, regulatory frameworks, and insurance operations. Experience with multinational/global commercial insurance is a plus.
- High level of competency analyzing data and developing reports/charts in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI (or similar business analytics platform).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with underwriting systems, risk assessment and documentation tools, and data analytics platforms.
Position Salary and Benefits
The annual salary for this position ranges from $90,000 to $120,000 depending on actual experience, skillset, and location. In addition to base salary, full-time N2G employees are also eligible for bonus potential.
