Company Description:

CorMedix Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing therapeutic products for the prevention and treatment of infectious and inflammatory diseases. Our Company is focused on developing its lead investigational drug product, Defencath™, a novel, antimicrobial and antifungal solution designed to prevent catheter-related bloodstream infections (“CRBSIs) in patients with end-stage renal disease receiving hemodialysis through a central venous catheter. Recently, the Company submitted the New Drug Application (NDA) for Defencath™ to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Future research and NDA’s submissions may include indications for similar infectious outcomes in oncology, ICU, and patients receiving total parenteral nutrition (TPN).

Reporting to the Acting Field Medical Director, the Sr. Medical Science Liaison (Sr. MSL) will help to drive the success of CorMedix’s clinical programs by engaging and developing relationships with key decision-makers and medical experts in the inpatient space to:

1)     Facilitate program success by uncovering how and where patients are being treated, understanding the diagnostic and treatment journey for patients and variances within,

2)     Conduct fair and balanced scientific exchange with health care practitioners in clinical settings and within medical congresses, capturing clinical and scientific insights to inform clinical development programs and gather information about the competitive landscape, and

3)     Support dissemination of scientific and clinical information within the patient advocacy community.

The MSL team is critical at this exciting stage for CorMedix as we move into successful launch planning. As the field medical face of CorMedix, this Sr. MSL role is essential in collaborating with, and incorporating the perspective of, external experts in our product program.

There is flexibility on the geographic region. Access to a major airport is highly desired. We are looking for two Senior MSLs. One will cover the Northeast and the other will cover from Chicago down.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as the SME and scientific resource to disease experts and medical community with up-to-date relevant medical information and product information.
  • Identify and develop key medical experts and develop strong relationships with thought leaders in inpatient nephrology, infection prevention and pharmacy.
  • Serve as a scientific resource for and communicate clinical information to key decision makers within the hospital/system formulary processes within payor organizations.
  • Respond to requests for medical information in the region; ensure that an accurate and fair-balanced response is provided consistent with company compliance training.
  • Gather clinical insights and information about the population and treatment landscape for each disease state with timely communication to and alignment with internal partners, including core and sub-teams, to facilitate successful design and implementation of clinical programs.
  • Work with colleagues on initiatives including publications, investigator sponsored research, advisory boards, symposia, and presentations.
  • Participate in and lead field medical activities the course of key medical and scientific conferences, engaging with practitioners, analyzing scientific presentations and providing insights and observations.
  • Engage patient advocacy groups and physician organizations provide appropriate support through multiple initiatives and support research and education, as appropriate
  • Develop expertise and in depth understanding our disease states, products, competitors, marketplace, related medical areas and regulatory guidelines to be able to effectively present clinical data to inform physicians, payers and internal partners.
  • Be well versed in the disease states, landscape epidemiology, local practice standards and patterns and other agents being used in the given product indication or area of study.
  • Collaborate with Market Access and Managed Care Key Account Managers in providing clinical and scientific support around clinical trial, epidemiology and medical landscape pertaining to the product indication for key decision makers within payor organizations and managed care.

FUTURE RESPONSIBILITIES

Post-NDA approval, CorMedix anticipates initiating additional studies in multiple indications. The Sr. MSL will also:

  • Educating physicians about our clinical trials, identifying potential clinical trial and referral centers and partnering cross-functionally to successfully execute clinical trials
  • Enhance clinical trial enrollment via reinforcing protocol knowledge and screening criteria with site investigators and staff, facilitating relationships between PIs and Clinical Operations, and assisting with site initiation and start-up activities as needed.

THE QUALIFICATIONS

  • MD/PharmD/PhD/DO or PA/NP with an advanced degree; 5+ years MSL experience (preferably in infectious disease, nephrology, acute care) AND 5+ years of clinical/patient care experience.  Experience in epidemiology and health economics (related to renal disease/HD/ID) is a plus.
  • Nephrology, Infectious Disease or Clinical Pharmacy background required.
  • Clinical and Commercial stage experience, including pre and post launch required.
  • Solid base knowledge of health economics and outcomes research, and in conveying this in complement to clinical data in the managed market/payor setting.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication, listening, and presentation skills to be able to effectively communicate medical information, answer highly technical questions and bring detailed questions and information back to internal teams.
  • Self-starter with experience building a region and key experts/practitioner base. Able to identify treating physicians, understand population and treatment landscapes, and develop strong longitudinal relationships. A degree of an established network in the region is desirable.
  • Success working both independently, and in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Proven ability to create materials, including training resources, reports and presentations.
  • Track record of effective internal cross-functional collaboration.
  • History of delivering within and adapting to nimbleness of a small company.
  • Willingness to travel up to 60%, dependent on region
