About the FP&A Manager

The FP&A manager will be a self-starter excited to help establish new processes and controls as the first member of the company’s finance team, translating strategic concepts to detailed analysis that will guide the financial planning and reporting of a fast-growing early stage company. The ideal candidate for the FP&A Manager position will also use strong analytical skills to deliver key insights on business operations to executive leadership. Rhythm is well funded and will grow very rapidly in 2020 and beyond.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years demonstrated experience as an independent contributor in a corporate FP&A function, ideally with history of owning management of budgeting, planning, forecasting, financial modeling and reporting
  • Motivated by driving insights and action vs. just doing the analysis – a focus on the “so what”
  • Good understanding of energy customer serving business P&L and risk drivers
  • Ability to structure ambiguous business problems and to apply analytical and financial modeling tools to develop insights for leadership
  • Good business acumen – able to evaluate information, identify relevant industry resources, and make good judgments
  • Detail orientation – able to “own” the details of any analysis while not becoming bogged down and missing the “big picture” of what the overall question is that the analysis is seeking to address
  • Ability to work closely with broader corporate finance functions, including accounting, audit, tax, with preference for candidates
  • Strong communicator skills with the ability to syndicate financial planning processes across business leadership, as well as present financial analysis to CEO and board
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field (MBA/CPA/M.Acc preferred)
  • Active mindset, thinking about the next things to be done, rather than waiting for assignment
  • Detail oriented, thoughtful time manager able to structure personal activities to ensure timeliness of efforts
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Experience working with BI tools (for example, Tableau, PowerBI, Looker, etc)
  • Experience working in B2C businesses a plus
  • General understanding of commodity derivatives, wholesale energy markets, and ETRM systems is a plus
  • Experience working in entrepreneurial/start-up/private equity environments a plus
  • Passion for sustainability, conservation, and renewable energy a plus


Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and own key business processes to support budgeting and forecasting
  • Ownership of corporate financial model, capable of building said model from a blank page, as well as incorporating greenfield scenario analysis seamlessly into an existing model
  • Develop dynamic financial models and reports that track business metrics and performance on a weekly and monthly basis
  • Work closely with functional business leadership to understand the nuances of the function, its place within the corporation and the industry, and develop functional level forecasts and budgets accordingly
  • Develop a comprehensive FP&A reporting package to be delivered to executive leadership on recurring basis
  • Partner with accounting to analyze and interpret actual financial performance vs. operating plan and provide recommendations back to the business
  • As necessary, assist in building business case models to help vet decision-making regarding new investment areas
  • Identify and implement process improvements that allow for improved functioning of capital allocation and tracking
  • Serve as primary interface to outsourced finance-related functions, which may include: CPA/bookkeeping, audit and tax, banking, insurance, investment. Communicating efforts of outsourced teams to internal Rhythm leadership and closely managing performance of outsourced partners. Collaboration with outsourced partners will be particularly key to ensure accuracy of accounting efforts and explain variances to plan. Help analyze benefit of outsourced partners versus in-source full-time hires to own functions.
