We're excited to offer a unique opportunity through the DoD SkillBridge program. SkillBridge is a valuable initiative that allows active-duty service members of all supporting branches and military spouses the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training with civilian employers.
Participants are not eligible for compensation from Long Capture, as the active-duty service member continues to receive military compensation and benefits.
You may be eligible to participate in SkillBridge if you:
- Have 180 days of service or fewer remaining prior to your date of discharge and you have at least 180 continuous days of active service.
- Obtain approval from your unit commander.
- Agree that participation in SkillBridge can be terminated at any time by the service if mission requirements dictate.
What is This Position About?
The Innovation Specialist will be responsible for finding, creating, engaging, and maintaining strong relationships with potential clients, federal customers, and end-users. He or she will straddle the world between sales and federal business development focusing on generating both business and federal sales leads and building a strong network of connections (through attending events, phone calls, emails, etc.). He or she will be responsible for finding and engaging with both new clients and federal customers/end-users through referrals, lead generation, and networking. The Innovation Specialist will research and develop potential leads in prospective businesses and military organizations such as Program Offices, Operational Units, Spark Cells, and others. He or she will create strategies to connect end-users with clients who have technology that would benefit the warfighter. He or she will facilitate introductions between these leads and Long Capture clients to support proposal submissions or sole source contract opportunities. He or she must excel at creating and developing sound relationships with potential clients and strategic partners.

A competitive Innovation Specialist will be a self-motivated, self-starter who is skilled at quickly building networks of contacts, developing, and maintaining strong relationships. He or she understands new ideas quickly and will be able to confidently communicate these ideas through both verbal and written forms. He or she will be comfortable interacting with high level officials, including business executives, military leaders and DoD stakeholders, among others. He or she will have a strong, demonstrated sense of responsibility and will take pride in his or her work.
What Will You Be Responsible For?

Research businesses, organizations and individuals to find new opportunities and generate leads

Research and engage potential clients, federal customers and end-users to establish rapport and build strong, long-lasting relationships

Hand off relationships to appropriate BD/Sales team member to either bring on as client or secure Letter of Support (LOS)/Customer Memorandum (CM)/Collab Agreements

Build network of Government Customers and others for Small Business through email, phone calls, and in-person meetings

Develop deep relationships with Spark Cells and other operator-level orgs to identify problem sets and use cases of warfighter

Organize and manage archive of contacts

Attend a variety of events to cultivate both government relationships and small business relationships related to identified tech needs

Stay up to date on industry trends through research, conferences, meetings, and industry events

Manage conference and event set-up and tear-down
-
Collect and report on event related data

Maintain competency with Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and other Department of Defense (DoD) program requirements

Effectively communicate and train LC team on defense needs and trends within the operator level of DoD

Collaborate with the Sales, Business Development, and Capture teams to identify and grow opportunities

Maintain a professional and respectful demeanor at all times

Other duties as assigned

What Qualifications Do You Need?

Minimum of 3 years of business development experience, sales experience, or experience working in federal or DoD acquisitions

Minimum of 4 years of Department of Defense (DoD) experience required

Military Spark Cell experience preferred

Familiarity with military organizational structure and culture

Strong knowledge of and experience using CRM software (i.e. - Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar platform)

Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with large network of contacts
-
Strong attention to detail and follow up to keep cultivated leads “warm”
-
Excellent written and oral communication skills

Ability to breakdown complicated information into layman’s terms

Ability to prioritize work

Demonstrated sense of responsibility and ability to work independently

Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty
