WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING


Newly created role of Vice President of Marketing and Communications will report to the COO as part of the leadership team, and have both leadership and hands-on individual contributor responsibilities. The role is a critical part of a small leadership team that is building-out our national footprint and brand presence to support the successful operation of 50+ markets in the United States. The position will interface extensively with key stakeholders both internally and externally, including leading a team of direct reports in ECommerce, Creative, Growth, and Marketing.


The VP of Marketing and Communications will bring expertise, ingenuity, and creativity to the table to lead an execution oriented team focused on content, commerce and community wrapped in 6AM’s creative brand expression. It requires someone who can leverage insights on our audience, products and market trends to build an innovative approach to messaging, campaign ideas, and tactics targeting our audience at key moments in their user journey. This role is responsible for the organization’s branding, marketing, media and public relations, ECommerce, audience development, campaign promotion, market research, and marketing-related customer relationship and engagement activities, all essential to enhancing the organization’s brand reputation and driving increased revenue and valuation.


Strategy and Innovation Leadership


  • Meet regularly with the Leadership Team to align marketing efforts with business strategy.

  • Establish internal and external brand and product positioning to further define and differentiate us from other local media brands, with a focus on developing and delivering a target audience that is educated, actively spending, and engaged locally. 

  • Deliver a strategy that drives brand awareness, engagement and increased brand affinity and trust, in addition to supporting 6AM City’s growth and revenue goals

  • Manage the brand and marketing strategy, messaging, and go-to-market planning

  • Identify and analyze key industry trends

  • Lead the ideation, prioritization, and testing of fresh marketing ideas, focusing on breaking new ground and uncovering scalable opportunities that the company is not leveraging today. 

  • Proactively participate in the product ideation and conceptual development with the revenue, editorial, and product teams.

  • Support the development of strategic marketing relationships

  • Attend and present at board meetings as needed.

  • Lead company culture through the marketing team's creative contribution to the team.

  • Live and breathe the 6AM City brand.


Talent Development and Management


  • Lead and develop a team of high-performance and innovative marketers who nurture and grow 6AM City brand and audience engagement across all platforms.

  • Identify top talent to grow from within and while also recruiting talent from outside the company.

  • Maintains a positive culture built on a framework of clear expectations, achievable goals, support for career and personal development, transparency of leadership and decision making.

  • Ensure legal compliance and manage conflict resolution as it relates to compliance, licensing, copyright, and relevant trademark topics.

  • Communicate new initiatives and strategy to the 6AM City team.


Execution


  • Own, uphold, and expand upon our brand guidelines and design aesthetic.

  • Be laser focused on scalability, having a mind set that anything we create needs to be designed so that it can be easily expanded to multiple markets.

  • Create and implement a marketing calendar to support business strategy.

  • Manage the team executing go-to-market campaigns for new initiatives and on-going campaigns.

  • Own stakeholder alignment around brand campaigns, project briefing, planning, budgeting, cross functional communication, and execution

  • P&L responsibility includes driving an increase in profitability by efficiently managing expenses.

  • Drive audience engagement in revenue generating products through effective marketing strategy, specifically 6AM City’s ECommerce Merchandise, ECommerce Listings (Homes, Jobs, Events) Platform, and Membership Platform (launching in 2022).

  • Oversee the ECommerce brand, ensuring execution of merchandise planning, pricing, product development, marketing strategies, fulfillment, customer experience and day-to-day operations. 

  • Oversee Audience Development and Performance Marketing, ensuring the team is fulfilling day-to-day creation, execution, and optimization of paid advertising campaigns including creative development, ad placement, and audience building to support monthly audience growth targets.

  • Success metrics will tie to KPIs aligned with growth, loyalty, and revenue performance.

  • Create consistent messaging to shape the industry narrative about 6AM City’s business, with a focus on audience development, revenue generation, and talent recruitment.

We’re looking for a passionate, creative and strategic leader with a track-record of building brands and communities through storytelling. You will have a deep understanding of how brand and digital marketing intersect to drive growth in fast-moving environments and will be someone who builds strong partnerships across the industry and serves as an enabling force within the organization. You will demonstrate a bias toward action and be ready to roll up your sleeves to get the work done. You will have the flexibility and creativity of mindset to try different marketing approaches but can also pull from a track record of prior success.

  • 10+ years in brand / consumer marketing experience, with 5+ years in management

  • Experience building innovative brands and go to market campaigns

  • Understanding of the interrelationships between brand and performance marketing and how to best leverage across marketing channels.

  • Fluency in digital marketing, including a clear understanding of building brands and communities in digital channels, social media, content, etc.

  • Expertise in competitive analysis, consumer insights, positioning and business model creation.

  • Understanding of what makes brands grow, and how the current media landscape creates unique advantages for 6AM City.

  • Love what you create, but remain open to constructive criticism and iteration.

  • Ability to take direction and input from multiple people and adaptable to change.

  • Confidently present and sell your work to internal stakeholders, establishing buy-in across teams.

  • Embody a strong understanding of trends in product and marketing.

  • High energy, self-starter, can-do attitude, and passion for working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Agile problem solver with high change tolerance, and ability to manage many tasks in a fast-paced, hyper-growth, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Ability to learn quickly, implement learnings into daily responsibilities, and grasp the big picture.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, with ability to multitask and prioritize as needed.

  • Take ownership of and initiative in everything you do, and understand how to lead a team.

  • Experience working in Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive and Dropbox.

  • Experience in working with websites and digital media properties.

  • A love of 6AM City’s brand and respect of its audience.
