WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
The role of Managing Editor supports the strategic growth and development of 6AM City’s editorial team, specifically as it relates to content management, creation, and strategy.
The Managing Editor will report directly to the Editorial Director and will serve to provide leadership and hands-on coaching to a segment of the editorial team. This role will work under the direction of the Editorial Director to ensure the quality of all content being published in 6AM markets by coaching content, providing editorial guidance and delivering exemplary content examples for 6AM City’s markets. This role will directly manage the City Editors and Multi-City Editors in assigned markets, identifying high performers for growth opportunities and working to coach individual performance when opportunities for improvement are identified. This role will provide recommendations regarding individual performance to the Editorial Director, and will lead performance reviews.
The Managing Editor will eat, breathe, and sleep content. They will be the expert on 6AM City’s style, voice, tone, brand, and coverage guidelines. They will be experts in what we cover, how we cover it, and how we differentiate our product in the market to drive engagement. They will provide daily feedback and guidance to ensure editorial consistency across markets. An exceptional content creator, the Managing Editor will propose and implement strategies for leveraging content engagement and furthering 6AM City as a participatory media brand.
The success of this role will largely be measured by the aggregate strength of the content produced by the Managing Editor’s markets (particularly as it relates to creativity, engagement, brand guidelines, cleanliness, accuracy, etc.).
Provide a daily edit of all markets’ newsletters and social assets to support the delivery of an impeccably clean, error-free, and on-brand product.
Serve as the initial point of contact pre-publishing for all content-related questions, issues, and concerns for the editorial team.
Directly manage City Editors and Multi-City Editors in all assigned markets. Provide timely performance reviews and, as necessary, performance improvement plans.
Maintain, regulate, and enforce 6AM’s brand and style guidelines. Ensure a high level of consistency across our rapidly growing markets.
Lead editorial team members in the creation of a monthly content calendar.
Provide regular and consistent feedback on content. Share best practices and identify areas for improvement.
Support the creation, development, and deployment of scalable, multi-market content and initiatives.
Lead the creation, development, and deployment of editorial resources such as content templates, content approach guidelines, and master content pieces.
Maintain and create content guidelines and strategies as needed.
Support the creation, development, and deployment of new editorial projects (e.g. new newsletters in existing markets).
Work with the Multi-City Editor to provide hands-on day-to-day editorial support during periods of transition (leave, PTO, termination, onboarding, etc.).
Leadership + Strategy
Demonstrate an interest in, and knowledge of, industry trends.
Be willing to experiment, test the boundaries, and leverage creativity in content and content creation.
Work with the Editorial Director to create and deploy company-wide editorial strategies.
Serve as an expert in the creation of engaging, shareable content.
Make recommendations on behalf of the editorial team as it relates to content strategy and needs.
Serve as a liaison advocating on behalf of editorial team members.
Work closely with other Managing Editors, the Editorial Director, VP of Content, and 6AM’s business coach to continually grow and develop the role.
Participate in and support editorial talent acquisition to create a diverse editorial staff across assigned markets.
Track reader feedback, engagement and unsubscribe data.
Stay on top of analytics and KPIs. Identify trends and make recommendations to the Editorial Director based on data.
Produce and manage content that supports 6AM City’s subscriber acquisition and revenue goals.
Produce and manage consistent and relevant content that improves subscriber retention and engagement rates.
Assist with the training and onboarding of new editorial team members.
Assist with building out and continuously updating Trainual.
Work with the Editorial Director to define clear and measurable success metrics for the editorial team.
Support the culture and synergy of 6AM City’s editorial team.

We are looking for team members with a strong + diverse knowledge of content relevant to growing communities, established community + editorial relationships, and a track record of success in digital media.
Editorial Experience: 5+ years of editorial experience, some management experience preferred.

A conversational approach that drives audience participation and engagement. Deep understanding and experience in the interrelation of all distribution platforms.
