THIS IS A REMOTE POSITION 


PGP (The Public Good Projects) is seeking a new, full-time role: a Senior Editor to manage current campaign content and expand our editorial operations into nonprofit news. This person will report to the Managing Editor and will help set the agenda on how we write and report about public health and social justice topics for the general public. This person should have an innate sense of what makes a good story and how we can grow PGP into a well-trafficked destination with a well-articulated tone and point of view. 


The right candidate has impeccable editorial judgement, strong leadership skills, and knows how to conceptualize, assign, and edit everything from social media copy to aggregated news to lengthy features. You will help manage a team of copywriters and freelance reporters and recruit diverse talent to grow our team. The Senior Editor will interface with our creative and marketing teams, so we’re looking for someone with refined interpersonal and communication skills. People with great organizational skills, superior attention to detail, and punctuality will also excel in the role.


This is a full-time, fully-remote position that is eligible for benefits. Candidates must have the ability to work from their own home office.


RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Specific duties include, but may not be limited to:   

  • Contribute to the editorial strategy for our burgeoning nonprofit news site, including writing and editing articles and social media copy on a range of public health and social justice topics

  • Assist the the managing editor to plan and coordinate the editorial calendar

  • Assist in evaluating finalized copy for compliance with policies, style, and tone

  • Help manage a team of copywriters and freelance journalists, holding them accountable to deadlines and guiding their career development

  • Work to maximize the impact of various digital channels 


QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Minimum five years editing experience, preferably in digital journalism

  • Exceptional ability in copywriting, editing, and researching 

  • Adept at editing on both a story and a line level 

  • Knowledge of SEO, social media best practices, and CMS experience

  • Highly organized with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, often switching from daily content to long-term assignments

  • Outstanding communication skills 

  • A stable of public health savvy freelance writers

  • Demonstrated interest in public health preferred
