Job Description
Virscio is seeking an experienced Lab Technician to support sample management and quality control procedures in broader support of commercial and internal research and development activities and to execute lab-based assays. Management of biological samples and associated receipt, storage and quality control checks will represent critical job functions. The position will also involve having and/or gaining familiarity and fluency with laboratory procedures such as western blotting, ELISA, RT-PCR, immunohistochemistry, cell culture and microscopy. Additional responsibilities will include maintenance of lab research supplies and associated equipment as well as execution of relevant Standard Operating Procedures.

 

Responsibilities

• Support and progressively lead the receipt, storage, packaging and QC of biological samples

• Support the processing of biological samples to support subsequent bioanalysis

• Support the design of lab-based assays contributing to external and internal R&D initiatives

• Execution of lab-based experiments and associated data generation, collation and analysis

• Reporting of methodological details and analytical results for internal distribution

• Assist with development of new research methodologies and optimization of existing methods

• Formulate and prepare solutions and buffers

• Maintain lab supplies and support Logistics Manager on ordering and receipt

• Assist in laboratory oversight of cleanliness and safety procedures

• Establish in-depth knowledge of facility SOPs and contribute to their maintenance

• Execution and maintenance of facility good laboratory practices (GLPs)

• Generate presentations on research findings to team members and Sponsors

Education/Experience Requirements

• Requires bachelor’s or master’s degree in a life sciences area, with 1 or more years of lab-based research experience in a highly competitive academic setting or within industry

• One year or more of experience working with protein- and/or genomics-based bioanalytical platforms (e.g. western blot, PCR) preferred

• Demonstrated ability to adapt to the necessities of fast-paced research activities

• Experience working in a protocol driven research environment

• Strong interpersonal skills and comfort interacting with Virscio research team, Sponsors and leading members of the scientific community through various modes of communication

• Strong computer literacy required, including ability to effectively and efficiently use a wide variety of software platforms including Microsoft Office

• Experience working with statistical software packages, software/cloud-based project management or inventory management systems a major plus
