Job Overview
The Business Development Director (BDD) will be responsible for generating, qualifying, and managing leads and opportunities related to Virscio’s full suite of preclinical research service offerings, including Research Models, Preclinical Research Services, GLP Safety/Toxicology, Histology/Pathology Services, and Molecular Research Services. This role will have overall responsibility for managing a robust pipeline of opportunities while achieving defined booking targets. The BDD will leverage current and future relationships, experience, and judgment to plan and accomplish business development goals that align to company objectives while leading and/or supporting capability development within the business development function. The BDD will have a clear understanding of the preclinical market segment and ability to thoughtfully articulate Virscio’s differentiated R&D capabilities relative to alternative R&D service providers, including the value and rational for the use of nonhuman primates in research and development.

Essential Job Responsibilities
- Revenue Growth: Drive new revenue growth, achieving defined booking targets by identifying, negotiating, and closing high-value contract research service agreements
- Pipeline Management & Reporting: Maintain CRM system in real time to ensure accurate and timely lead and opportunity pipeline forecasting and reporting, while maintaining a consistently high customer engagement and service level.
- Client Relationships: Efficiently manage and build relationships with existing and prospective biotechnology and pharmaceutical market segment clients to drive client engagement, lead and opportunity development to achieve quarterly and annual revenue objectives.
- Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with sales team members, SME's, operational partners, and executives to bring potential leads and opportunities through the RFP process to contract
- Sales Workflow: Qualify and respond to RFI and RFQ inquiries generated by marketing and other inbound channels (i.e., website, marketplace platforms like Scientist.com, Science Exchange, and other referrals / sources).
- Marketing, Education & Awareness: Distribute marketing and other scientific and/or technical collateral to enable education and awareness.
- Customer Service: Timely, collaborative, and thoughtful follow up with prospective clients to ensure that all outstanding proposals are complete, meet their needs, and solicit and action any questions and/or feedback.
- Leadership: Recommend and implement strategies and tactics that enhance the customer experience including definition of new internal processes as needed.
Qualifications
- Education level/Certifications/Licensures
- PhD is required; BS/BA in scientific field of study required
- Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience, with a combination of preclinical / translational research experience and CRO business development experience
- Proven track record of success in business development selling translational research services in nonhuman primate into the life sciences, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical segments
- Strong understanding of the life sciences sector, from discovery to clinical trials, regulatory frameworks, and larger funding and innovation ecosystem
- Specific competencies
