Chief Accounting Officer

Summary

Our purpose at CloudHQ is to provide flexible, efficient and resilient data center solutions to businesses of all sizes. Our growing organization was founded by the pioneer of data center REITs. CloudHQ has state-of-the-art data center sites located in two Northern Virginia locations, as well as London, Frankfurt, and Paris, and we anticipate exponential growth over the next several years both in the US and abroad. This position will be based in Washington DC, with global accountability.

Position Summary

The Chief Accounting Officer leads the accounting function including technical accounting, reporting, and accounting operations within CloudHQ and related entities. The focus of this position includes regulatory compliance and practices, as well as collaboration with the CFO and COO on developing financial strategies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a centralized team whose functions include accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and reporting
  • Lead all aspects of accounting operations, while introducing and improving policies and procedures
  • Manage third-party service providers and consultants, including responsibility for contract negotiations and management 
  • Partner with CFO in serving as technical accounting decision-maker for the company
  • Partner with CFO to determine accounting and tax implications for all material business decisions
  • Review all documentation and contracts in order to develop and improve internal controls
  • Assist with financial reporting, ensuring quality and adhering to deadlines
  • Manage transaction accounting, closing processes and other financial controls
  • Oversee General Ledger functions; ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with GAAP and IFRS
  • Act as primary liaison to external auditing firms
  • Assist Tax Director with tax compliance
  • Manage the accounting budget – establishing the right mix of spend and effective return on investment
  • Champion and roll out system enhancements and ensure team is fully maximizing potential
  • Collaborate and contribute to the Senior Leadership Team to build efficiencies into all aspects of the group’s operations including systems and processes
  • Maintains responsibility for overall internal compliance with accounting matters

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree, Accounting

 

Experience:  15+ years overall accounting experience with 5+ years of experience in a senior financial leadership position. Real Estate, Construction, and/or Data Center industry experience required.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • CPA license
  • Experience in public accounting
  • Experience with managing finance and accounting functions
  • Experience with international accounting standards and managing international operations
  • Excellent technical accounting skills with detailed understanding of current GAAP/IFRS
  • Advanced understanding of tax accounting and compliance
  • Strong proficiency in Yardi or similar accounting system
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office, specifically Excel
  • Exceptional business acumen and ability to exercise critical judgment
  • Meticulous attention to detail and analytical thinking
  • Outstanding leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and develop others.
  • Ability to simultaneously and effectively manage several projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively with strong presentation skills, and the ability to impact and influence
  • Strong personal integrity with exceptional ethical standards
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment, with regular need to work outside of normal business hours due to global business needs
