Communications and Digital Media Coordinator

The Texas Freedom Network (TFN) seeks a full-time Communications and Digital Media Coordinator based in Austin, Texas. TFN is a statewide non-partisan, grassroots organization that is building an informed and effective movement working toward equality and social justice.

The Communications and Digital Media Coordinator drafts communication materials for different audiences - including the organization’s supporters, members of the press, donors, and elected officials - and acts as guardian of the TFN brand, bringing the impactful work of staff to the public at large in an understandable and compelling manner. The primary responsibilities of the Communications and Digital Media Coordinator will be to generate web traffic, create action alerts, and produce compelling written content for email advocacy.  The Communications and Digital Media Coordinator should be passionate about using communications as a tool for advocacy, and organizing people through education. The Communications and Digital Media Coordinator will report to the Communications Director.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with the Communications team to develop and lead communications strategies to advance the goals of our Political, Organizing, Digital, and Development Departments.

  • Use strategic communications skills to amplify, promote, and publicize the efforts/work of Texas Freedom Network and its projects: Texas Rising and Just Texas.

  • Manage email communication with supporters, including taking ownership of an email calendar to strategically guide our audiences through a ladder of engagement.

  • Track, analyze, and report on digital communications metrics.

  • Create Action alerts and EveryAction forms

  • Oversee and implement website improvements & development

  • Assist in drafting messaging frames and crafting talking points to be used in press releases, media interviews, blog posts, social media, and email action alerts.

  • Research best messaging to use with our varying audiences.

  • Provide support and assistance for TFN events, including legislative hearings, advocacy events, and press conferences by live streaming, live tweeting, and taking photos/videos if needed. 

  • Act as a TFN spokesperson when needed- for print, broadcast, and radio - when necessary.

Qualifications and Skills

Desired qualifications are described below. Consideration will be given to individuals who may not meet the listed qualifications but demonstrate strong skills, knowledge, and potential.

  • Ideal candidates will have at least 1-2 years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: creative writing, strategic communications, digital communications, or public relations.

  • Experience with email marketing campaigns and action alerts.

  • Basic knowledge of HMTL and CSS

  • Experience using WordPress or related CMS

  • SEO experience

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the progressive values, mission and goals of the organization, including experience working with communities of color and a desire to be part of an anti-racist organization.

  • Must possess strong organizational skills, be detail-oriented, and possess the ability to follow projects through to completion.

  • Ability to communicate persuasively and clearly in writing and verbally to a wide variety of media, political, stakeholder, influencer, and volunteer audiences.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others as part of a team.

  • Proficiency in Google Docs

 

Preferred, but not required:

  • Experience with developing and implementing digital campaigns to achieve advocacy goals.

  • Familiarity with the Associated Press style.

  • Familiarity with the Texas political landscape, the Texas Legislature, and the function of the State Board of Education are a plus.

  • Fluency in another language is highly valued, but not required.

 

Benefits

Salary: $50,000 - $60,000 (depending on experience)
