Texas Freedom Network (tfn.org) is a statewide non-partisan, grassroots organization that is building an informed and effective movement working toward equality and social justice.

Objective

Reporting to the Organizing Director, the Organizing Strategist is responsible for directly supporting the TFN faith and community organizers in empowering the TFN base and coalition partners to successfully engage on TFN issue areas through a combination of field coaching, connecting of appropriate TFN resources to organizing efforts, and strategic research.


Primary Responsibilities

The Organizing Strategist will be Austin-based and support the Organizing Director and the Organizing department with the following:


Membership Recruitment

  • Contribute to defining and executing membership goals with Organizers 

  • Create innovative approaches for expanding the TFN membership base

  • Build, track and encourage supporter-to-member recruitment and retention programs

  • Identify and cultivate leaders within TFN membership and progressive community ensuring application of diversity, equity, and inclusion values

  • Coordinate field operations of integrated civic engagement projects across all TFN issue areas

  • Public speaking at small outreach events


Event and Project Coordination

  • Coordinate logistics of TFN events, including conferences, membership meetings and outreach programs 

  • Assist Organizing Director in defining outreach goals for all TFN projects


Coalition Maintenance 

  • Update and maintain allied organization database

  • Brainstorm and recruit new allied organizations

  • Build relationships with allied organization staff 

  • Serve as TFN representative at allied organization events (including faith communities) 


Volunteer Recruitment and Development

  • Coordinate, recruit and energize volunteer supporters

  • Coordinate volunteers for all events and programs

  • Manage and update volunteer database

  • Track and reward individual volunteer contributions

  • Organize and execute regular volunteer appreciation events 

  • Create volunteer programs to increase leadership development and grassroots participation


General Office

  • All staff participate in general office responsibilities, including correspondence, data entry, answering phones and working with volunteers.  

  • Travel and working long and/or irregular hours is required


Qualifications

  • Ideal candidates will have at least 2-5 years of organizing, campaign or coalition-building experience (issue advocacy, labor or student organizing, or political campaign field work) in a TFN issue area. 

  • Some experience or familiarity with faith-based organizing.

  • Some experience managing programs, staff or volunteers.

  • Strong facilitation skills, and comfort with public speaking.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the progressive values, mission and goals of the organization, including experience working with communities of color and a desire to be part of an anti-racist organization.

  • Prior experience or a firm understanding of government, the legislative process, civic engagement and political advocacy.

  • Applicants must be highly motivated self-starters who are able to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Fluency in another language is highly valued, but not required.

  • This position will be based in Austin, TX and will be required to travel throughout the state as needed.


Pay & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $55,000-$60,000

  • TFN pays 100% of employee premium costs for insurance plans covering medical, dental, and vision care.

  • TFN makes an annual employer contribution from 3 - 6% of employee’s salary (depending on tenure).

  • Paid holidays, including time off between Christmas and New Years fully paid.

  • Paid vacation, personal, sick, and parental leave.

  • Paid 4-week sabbatical after completing seven years of service.
