Texas Freedom Network is a statewide non-partisan, grassroots organization that is building an informed and effective movement working toward equality and social justice.

Objective

Reporting to the Organizing Director, the Faith Organizer is responsible for designing and implementing programmatic and outreach strategies and actions, and growing the base of supporters and activists in communities of faith and clergy throughout the state. This position provides strategic guidance and organizing support for our “Just Texas” program: JustTx.org.   


Primary Responsibilities


Faith-Based Organizing

  • Cultivate, nurture and maintain relationships with congregations involved in the Reproductive Freedom Congregations program, including guiding congregations through the Reproductive Freedom Congregation designation process. 

  • Work with and support clergy and faith leaders in their efforts to educate and speak out in their congregations, with congregants, to the community and media on TFN’s issues of importance

  • Develop and execute ongoing campaign to highlight progressive religious voices in key TFN issue areas, including but not limited to LGBTQ+ equality, abortion rights and reproductive justice


Grassroots Mobilization & Statewide Organizing

  • Assist TFN outreach department in designing and implementing issue advocacy campaigns, civic engagement and field work

  • Build participation in TFN programs using distributed and relational organizing models, traditional and digital outreach tools (email, text, etc), coalition building, and social media

  • Identify and cultivate leaders within TFN membership and Texas’ progressive community

  • Help coordinate logistics for TFN outreach events, including trainings, visibility events, speaker forums and lobby days

  • Provide assistance to the Organizing Director and organizing team colleagues

  • Serve as TFN representative in coalitions and partnerships around TFN issue areas and in faith-based circles. 

  • Coordinate with state and national organizations to share information and execute policy agendas.

 

Some travel and working long and/or irregular hours are required.

 

Qualifications

  • Ideal candidates will have at least 1-2 years of organizing, campaign or coalition-building experience (issue advocacy, labor or student organizing, or political campaign field work) in a TFN issue area. 

  • At least 1-2 years of experience or familiarity with faith-based organizing, or work in communities of faith.

  • Strong facilitation skills 

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the progressive values, mission and goals of the organization, including experience working with communities of color and a desire to be part of an anti-racist organization.

  • Prior experience and a firm understanding of government, the legislative process, civic engagement and political advocacy.

  • Applicants must be highly motivated self-starters who are able to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Fluency in another language is highly valued, but not required.

  • Must live in Texas, with the ability to travel throughout the state as needed.



Pay & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $48,000-$52,000

  • TFN pays 100% of employee premium costs for insurance plans covering medical, dental, and vision care.

  • TFN makes an annual employer contribution from 3 - 6% of employee’s salary (depending on tenure).

  • Paid holidays, including time off between Christmas and New Years fully paid.

  • Paid vacation, personal, sick, and parental leave.

  • Paid 4-week sabbatical after completing seven years of service
