The Texas Freedom Network (TFN) seeks a part-time Outreach and Advocacy Intern to work 15-20 hours per week through the end of the 2021 calendar year. Preference given to candidates that live outside of the Austin-area, but the position will remain virtual and remote through the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. This position will require occasional work on evenings and weekends.
TFN is a statewide non-partisan, grassroots organization that is building an informed and effective movement working toward equality and social justice.
Texas Rising (txrising.org) is a program of TFN that trains emerging grassroots leaders and activists on university and college campuses across the state and works to engage young progressive Texans in the entire civic arena.
Just Texas (justtx.org) is a program of TFN that engages progressive faith voices in public policy to formulate and advocate a faith-based response to the religious right’s policy agenda.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Writing volunteer-facing communications such as emails and submission forms
Monitoring and responding to communication with volunteers over slack under the direction of the Outreach and Advocacy Coordinator
Maintaining volunteer experience with outreach tools such as peer-to-peer texting
Assisting in research related to advocacy best practices and outreach opportunities
Attending coalition meetings and outreach events to assist the Outreach and Advocacy Coordinator in their duties
Collaborating with other TFN departments and programs on related work
Qualifications and Skills:
Applicants must be:
Well organized, resourceful and persistent
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrate a commitment to the progressive values, mission and goals of the organization
Highly motivated self-starters who are able to work independently and in a team environment
Able to coordinate with others well and be effective communicators
Ideally have 1-2 years working in outreach or community organizing, but not required
Compensations and Benefits:
This position pays $17 per hour through the end of the 2021 calendar year and includes paid sick time.
