The Texas Freedom Network (TFN) seeks a part-time Legislative Organizer based in Austin, Texas. TFN is a statewide non-partisan, grassroots organization that is building an informed and effective movement working toward equality and social justice.

The Legislative Organizer will focus on TFN’s legislative priorities, including public education, religious freedom, voting rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and reproductive justice. The main responsibilities of the Legislative Organizer will include assisting the organizing team with conducting research on relevant policies and legislation, mobilizing and educating grassroots activists, and supporting efforts to build relationships with key partners and stakeholders. The Legislative Organizer should be deeply committed to promoting civil liberties for all Texans.  The Legislative Organizer will report to the Organizing Director.  This position will run until the end of the 89th Legislative Regular Session. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Campaign issue research, monitoring and reporting

  • Assist with building and maintaining an active base of community advocates who can be mobilized to participate in meetings, rallies, and hearings.

  • Opportunities to attend coalition meetings with community organizations, faith leaders, donors and other state agency meetings. 

  • Helping to coordinate volunteers during days of action

Qualifications and Skills

  • College junior/senior or graduate level students with an interest in grassroots organizing 

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment is crucial 

  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

  • Familiarity with Texas political landscape 

  • Previous volunteer advocacy experience 

  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to get to and from the TFN office and Capitol complex

  • May work outside of normal business hours, including evenings or weekends

 

Pay & Benefits

  • $21 per hour

  • $115 monthly remote work stipend

  • Paid sick time
