DJC Law, PLLC is a high-volume personal injury law firm known for exceptional client advocacy, operational excellence, and is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant. This role plays a critical part in supporting the firm’s financial integrity, compliance, and growth.

Position Summary:

The Senior Staff Accountant plays a critical role in supporting the firm’s accounting and finance functions, including financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, trust accounting compliance, and internal controls. This position works closely with accounting leadership to ensure timely and accurate financial information and compliance with GAAP and applicable legal accounting standards.

The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, experience in professional services or legal accounting, and the ability to manage complex transactions related to contingency-fee revenue, settlement accounting, and trust accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close:

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Support the month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Generate monthly management and financial reporting packages for executive leadership, including supporting schedules and analysis.
  • Maintain parent company and related entity financial records and prepare consolidated financial statements.

General Ledger & Accounting Operations:

  • Maintain accurate accrual-basis accounting in accordance with GAAP and law firm accounting standards.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, review transactions for proper classification and coding.
  • Reconcile and maintain supporting documentation for general ledger accounts, including payroll, fixed assets, trust accounts, prepaid expenses, and other asset and liability accounts.
  • Identify discrepancies or errors and resolve through research and adjusting entries.
  • Assist in maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and internal documentation.

Trust & Legal Accounting Compliance:

  • Support compliance with trust/IOLTA accounting rules and ensure proper segregation and reconciliation of client funds.
  • Assist with settlement accounting, including attorney fees, case costs, medical liens, and disbursements.
  • Ensure contingency-fee revenue is recognized appropriately and in accordance with firm policy and GAAP.
  • Collaborate with legal operations and case management teams to ensure financial accuracy throughout the case lifecycle.

Cash Management & Investments:

  • Assist with cash management activities, including monitoring operating and trust account balances.
  • Support administration of the firm’s reserve or investment accounts, including documentation, journal entries, reconciliations, reporting, and recordkeeping.

Tax & External Support:

  • Assist with preparation of tax workpapers and regulatory or compliance-related reporting as needed.

Additional Duties:

  • Provide backup support for accounts payable, banking relationships, and funds management.
  • Assist with fixed asset tracking, insurance renewals, property taxes, and other accounting projects.
  • Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analyses for leadership.
  • Support special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a law firm, professional services, or complex multi-entity environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience with law firm accounting, trust/IOLTA accounting, or contingency-fee structures strongly preferred.
  • Experience with payroll administration and benefits accounting required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and solid working knowledge of accounting systems. (e.g. IF, SUMIFS, INDEX, MATCH, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables)
  • CPA preferred or progress toward CPA encouraged.
