College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) is a national membership association of sports public relations, media relations and communications/information professionals throughout all levels of collegiate athletics in the United States and Canada. 

Funded through the generosity of the National Football League, the internship will start September 2021 and end June 2022 following the annual CoSIDA Convention (event dates June 26-29). This is a temporary internship position and will NOT continue after the end of the term. The successful candidate will assist in all aspects of a model membership association as it relates to the management and administration of a comprehensive member benefits program.

Candidates should meet the Federal guidelines for minority classification (see below).

Internship stipend: Approximately $10,000 (paid at $12.50 per hour for 20 hours per week). This internship does not include benefits. The stipend is designed to support educational costs for candidates still enrolled in school; candidates/graduates not enrolled in school may use the stipend to support living expenses.

The CoSIDA full-time staff consists of five individuals who work remotely from their homes. The individual who is selected for this internship will primarily be working from their remote location as well. If the individual lives within driving distance of one of the full-time CoSIDA staff members, the opportunity to meet regularly will be an option. The intern will report to CoSIDA’s Director of Creatives Services Beau White but will have regular interaction with the entire staff.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the full-time staff with programs and projects that support the mission of the association -- to help members through engagement, professional development, advocacy, effective communication and professionalism

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and contribute to thoughts related to the membership and programs

  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a remote setting, meeting in person with staff when possible but mostly completing assigned tasks without in-person supervision

  • Support CoSIDA initiatives including but not limited to the Academic All-America awards program, racial and social injustice series, the annual CoSIDA convention, year-round professional development, diversity and inclusion, mentorship and the marketing and promotion of programs

  • Assist with graphic design of website and social media imagery, logos and printed publications

  • Travel required to the CoSIDA Convention in late June 2022 (event dates June 26-29) in Las Vegas (meals, transportation and accommodations will be reimbursed or covered)

  • Maintain records of all the tasks completed or worked on in order to document progress

  • Assist the staff with the administration of the CoSIDA Executive Board of Directors and the volunteer committee structure

  • Develop strategies designed to help boost Historically Black Colleges and Universities membership  

  • Serve on our Diversity & Inclusion Committee to support its initiatives  

  • Work on outreach to undergrad and graduate sport management programs to specifically find people of color who are interested in the field  

  • Build a collection of best practices for how to recruit and retain people of color  

  • Promote the Academic All-America program to HBCU schools

  • Plan a webinar designed to teach our younger generation of members the value of networking

  • Perform other administrative duties within the association as assigned


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, sports management or related field or working toward such degree

  • Strong writing, interpersonal and communication skills, including graphic design abilities

  • General knowledge of computers, software platforms, applications and other technology normal to the workforce

  • Working knowledge of public relations and college sports


Candidates should meet the Federal guidelines for minority classification, specifically:

  • Black (Not of Hispanic origin) – All persons having origins in any of the Black racial groups of Africa.

  • Hispanic – All persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American, or other Spanish culture of origin, regardless of race.

  • Asian or Pacific Islander – All persons having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent or the Pacific Islands. This area includes, for example, China, India, Japan, Korea, the Philippine Islands and Samoa.

  • American Indian or Alaskan Native – All persons having origins in any of the original peoples of North America, and who maintain cultural identification through tribal affiliation or community recognition.
