JOB SUMMARY  

The Program Manager is a member of the Cayton Children’s Museum’s Program Team, with a particular focus on community partnerships. The Program Manager collaborates with the Program Director and Chief Program Officer to develop and cultivate community partnerships and manage the planning, implementation, and execution of museum programs and events that support the mission of the museum. This position will develop and manage partnerships, field trips, community outreach, and in-museum programming, aligned to key early childhood education and developmental frameworks. This position collaborates with all museum departments to provide exceptional customer service to foster fun, playful, hands-on, and inclusive experiences for families onsite at the museum, online through digital platforms, and offsite in the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Cultivate, manage, and strengthen museum program partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and government agencies. 

  • Develop, execute, evaluate, and update lesson plans and curricula for new and existing programs that are aligned to early educational standards.  

  • Coordinate and manage field trips and related museum programs for local schools and community organizations.    

  • Collaborate with other Program Managers to hire, onboard, supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate performance of museum Play Guides. 

  • Conduct surveys, assessments, interviews, and evaluations to measure the effectiveness, outcomes, impact, and visitor experience of museum field trips, curricula, and other programs.  

  • Communicate across all museum departments to ensure coordination between programs and broader museum initiatives, including events, operations, marketing, retail, development, guest services, and security.    

  • Serve as an ambassador, welcoming museum guests, orienting them to the museum’s spaces, answering questions, addressing customer service needs, resolving problems with diplomacy, and providing up-to-date information on exhibits, programs, events, and activities.  

  • Ensure the highest level of customer service and hospitality is maintained for all museum visitors, programs, and events. 


  • Other duties as needed. 


 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 

  • 2-3 years’ experience in early childhood education, child development, arts education, youth and family programs, education administration, or related field 


  • 1-2 years' experience developing and cultivating local community partnerships. 

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred. 

  • Management/supervision experience preferred. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other standard office software, systems and collaboration tools.  

  • Must have a reliable mode of transportation.  


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, but also pragmatically and with careful attention to detail. 

  • Ability and willingness to take initiative, problem solve, and do what it takes to get the job done. 

  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to represent the organization and work collaboratively with diverse staff, Board, volunteers, vendors, and the public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

The person in this position must be able to: 

  • Move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, storage shelves, etc. 

  • Lift up to 25 lbs. 


  • Communicate via telephone, video conference, email, and in-person. 

  • Stand for sustained periods of time while working. 


 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS 

  • $31-$33 per hour, depending on experience.

SCHEDULE 

The Program Manager is a full-time, non-exempt position with a 32-hour work week, with at least one weekend day and some evenings as needed; however, the schedule may vary.
