JOB SUMMARY  

The Museum Floor Coordinator will collaborate with the Programs and Operations teams to supervise the daily activity at the Cayton Children’s Museum. The Museum Floor Coordinator reports to the Program Director. This position is an essential part of our public-facing team, to foster a fun, playful, stimulating, and inclusive environment for all children and families.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Supervise logistics for all daily programs and activities with children and families, including exhibit activation, classes, camps, field trips, events, and performances onsite at the museum and online through digital platforms.   

  • Conduct daily museum walkthrough of exhibits and program spaces before public opening and after public closing to ensure areas are operational, organized, clean, visually inviting, and adequately stocked with supplies.   

  • Provide support on the museum floor and address issues to Program Managers as needed.  

  • Assist in planning and executing in-museum programs aligned with the museum’s mission, strategic goals, and initiatives. 

  • Identify, troubleshoot and report exhibit maintenance problems, including equipment, technology, audiovisual, props, and supplies.  

  • Monitor inventory of materials, props, and supplies for all museum exhibits and programs.  

  • Participate in ongoing meetings that include monthly professional development, meetings with Program Managers, and all-staff meetings.  

  • Support new and existing museum staff by assisting Program Managers with regular training, meetings, mentoring, coaching, and professional development.   

  • Assist security, Operations, Guest Services & Events teams, Program Managers, and Play Guides with any issues that might arise in the museum. 

  • Communicate and escalate appropriate staff issues, conflicts, and concerns to Program Managers for guidance and support.  

  • Support the Program Managers in coordinating schedules and logistics to ensure adequate staffing of the museum floor.   

  • Work with Operations and Program teams to facilitate the setup, execution, breakdown, and reset for all museum programs and events.   

  • Ensure the highest level of customer service and hospitality is maintained for all museum visitors, programs, and events.  

  • Other duties as needed. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • At least 2 years’ experience in education, museum or children’s programs, events, operations, exhibits management, customer service, and/or leading teams.  

  • Bachelor's Degree in early childhood and/or elementary education, performing or fine arts, or related field preferred. 

  • Bilingual, a plus. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other standard office software, systems, and collaboration tools.  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability and willingness to take initiative, problem-solve, and do what it takes to get the job done. 

  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to represent the organization and work collaboratively with diverse staff, volunteers, vendors, and the public.

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE 

Hourly compensation is $22-$24 depending on experience. The Floor Supervisor is a part-time, non-exempt position and regular schedule includes Saturdays and Sundays, as well as some evenings and holidays; however, schedule may vary. Due to the variable nature of programming and attendance, candidates must have flexibility with respect to schedule and assignments.  

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

The person in this position must be able to: 

  • Move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, storage shelves, etc. 

  • Communicate via telephone, video conference, email, and in-person. 

  • Stand extended periods of time; accommodation can be made where necessary. 

  • Lift up to 25 lbs.
