JOB SUMMARY  

The Facilities Manager is responsible for maintenance and oversight of the Museum's building, exhibits and equipment to ensure that the space is safe and functional. Reporting to, and with the support and guidance of the Senior Operations Manager, the Facilities Manager will play a crucial role in inspecting facilities, coordinating updates and renovations, and managing relationships with service providers. The Facilities Manager works closely with the Programs and Operations team. This is a full-time, exempt position. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Performs routine maintenance, including safety procedures and checks, on facilities and exhibits; makes repairs as needed to ensure optimal functioning of the space. 

  • Conducts daily inspections of museum space and assets, exhibits, documents findings, generates work orders, and reports emergent issues to the senior operations manager for resolution. 

  • Maintains day-to-day operations of facilities, such as delegating or completing maintenance orders, directing janitorial staff when needed.  

  • Creates reports on maintenance, repairs, safety and other occurrences for supervisors and other relevant staff.  

  • Responsible for ordering essential cleaning and facilities materials and ensures their inventory are stocked and consistently maintained. 

  • Maintains orderly organization of museum material, equipment, supplies, etc. in storage room and other key storage areas.  

  • Solicits quotes from vendors and service providers for repairs, modifications, additions, etc. to museum equipment, exhibits, and other facility-related assets. 

  • Schedules and coordinates routine inspections and emergency repairs with outside vendors.  

  • Assembles furniture, equipment, custom-built materials and maintains their functionality. 

  • Assists other departments with event setup and breakdown needs. 

  • Other duties as needed. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • 5+ years’ experience minimum in Facilities management. Advanced mechanical skills and knowledge of plumbing, HVAC and other building systems. 

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred. 

  • Proficiency with repair tools and techniques. 

  • Must possess a current valid driver’s license with a clear driving record. 

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other standard office software, systems, and technology-based collaboration tools. 

  • Keen attention to detail and efficient problem-solving skills. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability and willingness to be proactive, take initiative, problem-solve, and do what it takes to get the job done. 

  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to represent the organization and work collaboratively with diverse staff and public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

The person in this position must be able to: 

  • Move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, storage shelves, etc. 

  • Lift up to 49lbs unassisted and carry for short distances, 50lbs and above in group lifts. 

  • Communicate via telephone, video conference, email, and in-person. 

  • Stand for sustained periods of time, walk, bend, kneel, use ladder. 

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS 

  • Annual salary of $60,000-$65,000 depending on experience.

SCHEDULE 

The Facilities Manager is a full-time, exempt position with a typical schedule of Museum business hours (usually between 8am and 5:30 pm), Tuesday-Saturday, with some evenings as needed; however, schedule may vary.
