JOB SUMMARY  

The Cayton Children's Museum is seeking a Grants Manager to oversee and grow foundation and government funding for the organization. The role will be responsible for building and executing on the foundation funding plan; managing all grants and institutional contributions through their lifecycle; and working closely with development leadership to identify and cultivate new potential funders. This is a full-time position that reports to our Development Director and plays a key role in our Advancement department. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Executes fundraising strategies and activities to cultivate and steward a portfolio of current and prospective funders with the goal of increasing our foundation and government portfolio.  

  • Manages the writing, preparation and timely submission of all grant applications, letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports to maximize the organization’s funding potential and remain in compliance with funder requirements.  

  • Maintains close oversight of the grant schedule and forecast, leaving ample time for information seeking, resource gathering, and the review process.   

  • Works collaboratively with the Development Director to identify and research new potential grant funding opportunities that support and advance program initiatives and organizational goals.  

  • Analyzes all current grant processes and procedures for effectiveness, making suggestions to improve efficiency and maximize outputs, as needed.  

  • Works thoughtfully with each department to gain a deep knowledge and understanding of program and operational plans, objectives, metrics/benchmarks, and outcomes to prepare compelling funding requests and reports.     

  • Communicates clear grant objectives, benchmarks, and expectations with each department, scheduling routine check-ins to gauge progress and identify challenges that may impact outcomes.  

  • Coordinates planning and logistics for all foundation site visits, providing participating staff with key talking points and funder insights.  

  • Manages and maintains up-to-date organizational profiles and registration at the city, state, and federal level to ensure compliance with government grants.  

  • Coordinates with the Development Coordinator to routinely add/update foundation records in donor CRM system.  

  • Maintains organized, accurate and up-to-date records of all grant submissions, awards/declines, and important funder correspondence.  

  • Works with accounting on foundation and government financials to ensure accurate funding allocations and that grant payments are collected on schedule.  

  • Other duties as needed. 

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 

  • At least 2 years' work experience in nonprofit development, preferably with specific experience in grant writing. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other standard office software, systems, and collaboration tools.  

  • Familiarity with city, state and federal government grant procedures and funding opportunities, a plus. 

  • Outstanding written communication skills and talent for crafting a powerful and persuasive narrative. 

  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously, while paying close attention to detail and accuracy. 

  • Basic understanding of budgeting and allocation principles. 

  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, but also pragmatically and with careful attention to detail. 

  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to represent the organization and work collaboratively with diverse staff, volunteers, vendors, and the public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

The person in this position must be able to: 

  • Move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, storage shelves, etc. 

  • Lift up to 20 lbs. 

  • Communicate via telephone, video conference, email, and in-person. 

  • Stand for sustained periods of time during special events and fundraisers; accommodation can be made when necessary. 

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS 

  • Annual salary of $67,000-$70,000 depending on experience.

SCHEDULE 

The Grants Manager is a full-time, exempt position with a typical schedule of business hours, Monday - Friday, with some evenings and weekends, as needed, however schedule may vary. Candidates will be expected to work in-office, unless otherwise instructed.
