JOB SUMMARY / ORGANIZATION IMPACT:

iApartments is looking for a passionate Embedded Software Engineer to help build IoT solutions in the multifamily industry. We are looking for someone who is motivated to tackle complex systems and learn new technologies quickly to bring the best possible experience to our customers and their residents. The Embedded Software Engineer will report directly to the Director of Technology and assist in design, implementation, and maintenance decisions with a diverse engineering team and management.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

·         Design, implement, and maintain embedded solutions for IoT devices

·         Provide guidance to management on design and hardware selection

·         Evaluate development boards for new hardware and firmware

·         Manage repositories for source code and documentation

·         Perform root cause analysis and critical thinking to isolate and debug systems to correct issues in a timely manner

·         Consistently act as an advocate for the end-user, ensuring a high-quality user experience, and recommending improvements or revisions to the engineering team

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

 

·         Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education in engineering or computer science

·         2 - 5 years of experience in embedded C/C++ programming

·         3 - 5 years of experience in embedded Linux (e.g. Yocto, Buildroot, OpenWRT, OpenEmbedded, etc.)

·         Experience interfacing with device registers, GPIO, and other input/output interfaces of a device

·         Experience programming an SoC, MCU, or MPU chip

·         Experience in source control and documentation (e.g. Git, Subversion, Mercurial, etc.)

·         Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail

·         Ability to work in fast paced environment within a small team that collaborates with multiple teams working on multiple projects

·         Capable of learning new technologies at an accelerated level

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

 

·         Design and review circuit schematics to assist in research and development

·         Experience with IoT frameworks including MQTT messaging

·         Experience working with RF technologies such as LTE (Cat M1, Cat1, etc.), Z-Wave, BLE, Zigbee, or NBIoT

·         Understanding HVAC systems and thermostat controls

·         Experience leading a team in an IoT cloud-based environment

·         Hands on experience with JIRA SCRUM/Agile development environment
