The Opportunity

The Hillspire Accounting & Finance team is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of information across all Schmidt entities. We’re building a world-class accounting team and strive for excellence in everything we do. 


As our Foundation Accounting Manager, you will report to our Controller and be responsible for helping to lead the accounting and reporting of our Foundation. You should have strong technical accounting knowledge and be able to complete month-end operational tasks. You will need to think holistically and work towards an efficient and effective way to manage grants accounting, and reporting. It is important that you have experience working with a variety of teams and partners and have a collaborative approach.


We are looking for an accounting manager who has significant experience in technical accounting, and has worked in a dynamic, fast-paced, environment.


A successful candidate will have experience working with a variety of accounting topics and knowledge of accounting guidance. They will need to address technical accounting topics as well as consider tax requirements communicated by our tax team. 


You have

  • The ability to identify inefficiencies in existing processes and help to define and implement process improvements

  • Proven interpersonal skills with ability to work with a diverse range of contacts

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Experience with treasury management, especially foreign wires 

  • Knowledge of standard payroll laws, policies, procedures and regulations

  • The ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously


Your Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, with a record that demonstrates suitable preparation for this position

  • 8+ years of accounting experience in both non-profit (especially grant-making and online publishing) and for-profit sectors required

  • Hands-on experience with monthly financial close and reporting required

  • Experience with simple consolidations and intercompany concepts required

  • Experience with 990-PF filing and Foundation grant-making accounting required

  • NetSuite experience required; Concur, Expensify and Adaptive experience preferred

  • Highly proficient with platforms such as Microsoft Office and Google Docs
