Position Overview: 

SunVest’s Engineering team is responsible for all solar design and electrical, civil, and structural engineering support for the Development team and the Operations team.   

 

As the Civil Engineer II based in our Chicago HQ, you will report directly to the VP of Engineering and work closely with other team members to lead civil and structural design efforts, ensure regulatory compliance, support project feasibility assessments, and optimize site development for solar installations. Your expertise in civil engineering will be pivotal to SunVest’s ongoing success, contributing to our sustainable growth strategy and the development of strategic plans for managing and improving renewable energy generation. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Site Design & Analysis: Lead all civil site design from project initiation to IFC, including earthwork & grading analysis, erosion control & stormwater management, hydrologic & hydraulic analysis, environmental & wetlands studies, and landscape architecture. 

  • Structural & Racking Coordination: Oversee all structural and racking design for rooftop and ground-mount projects, ensuring timely facilitation of IFP and IFC structural sets from racking companies. 

  • Permitting & Compliance: Prepare, stamp, and submit civil drawings for permitting while working directly with AHJs to secure timely approval of civil permits. 

  • Site Evaluation & Feasibility: Conduct ground-mount site evaluation visits to assess solar feasibility as needed. 

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Support the Development team and VP of Engineering on all civil and structural design aspects of the project. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field. 

  • A minimum of 3+ years of experience in civil engineering; experience within the renewable energy sector or a related field is a plus.   

  • Innovative and adaptable, with excellent collaboration, organizational, and time management skills.  

  • Demonstrated excellence in time management, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and adhere to strict deadlines. We appreciate candidates who can adapt to changing priorities without compromising the quality of their work.  

  • A deep passion for the renewable energy sector and a principled approach to fostering sustainable energy solutions.  

  • Comfortable with taking a collaborative approach to making suggestions that can improve existing processes; we value team members who are proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement and are eager to work with others to implement positive changes.

A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $100-175K.
