Position Overview: 

SunVest’s Development team is responsible for generating new opportunities for ground and roof top solar arrays as well as battery storage in preparation for our construction department. 

As the Director of Origination based in our Chicago HQ, you will report directly to the Chief Development Officer and work closely with other team members to identify and originate executable project development opportunities beyond greenfield community solar in SunVest’s existing core markets. Your expertise in sales and renewable energy will be pivotal to SunVest’s ongoing success, contributing to our sustainable growth strategy and the development of strategic plans for managing and improving renewable energy generation. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with internal and external market participants to build an executable pipeline of Distributed Generation (“DG”) investment opportunities, including RFP’s, C&I relationships, standalone storage, channel partnership, M&A, etc. 

  • Represent SunVest and collaborate with internal teams, other developers, utilities, commercial stakeholders and other market participants to identify real pipeline opportunities. 

  • Serve as a trusted partner to the Development and Capital Markets teams in advancing credible and executable opportunities. 

  • Negotiate Power Purchase Agreements, Virtual PPA’s, tolling agreements and other customer “off-take” agreements. 

  • Build and maintain trustworthy relationships with key energy buyers (e.g., utilities and corporates). 

  • Develop a deep understanding of commercial terms essential for underwriting and project evaluation. 

  • Primary relationship manager for existing subscriber aggregators and energy services companies. 

  • Communicate clearly and ensure partners fully understand SunVest’s competencies and commercial objectives. 

  • Develop and track leads to support and manage a predictable forecast and sales pipeline. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. 

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in sales is required, with renewable energy sales experience. Experience in the utility sector is a plus. 

  • Proven experience with sales cycles and relationship management, including building and managing a pipeline and structuring profitable contracts.

The salary range for this role reflects the broad array of factors considered in making compensation decisions. These factors include, but are not limited to, skill sets, experience, training, licensure, and certifications, as well as other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $150-190K. At SunVest, it is uncommon for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, as compensation decisions are tailored to the specifics of each case.
