Position Overview:
SunVest’s Accounting & Finance team is responsible for preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP to report on Company performance. As the Corporate Controller based in our Chicago HQ, you will report directly to the CFO and work closely with other team members to oversee daily accounting, financial reporting, audit and tax compliance. Your expertise in accounting will be pivotal to SunVest’s ongoing success, contributing to our sustainable growth strategy and the development of strategic plans for managing and improving renewable energy generation. This role is also key to partnering with Operations to understand project performance and forecasting future cashflows.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the organization's accounting-related functions, including general ledger, revenue recognition, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing.
- Ensure monthly and annual financial close are completed timely and accurately with all supporting reconciliations and in accordance with GAAP.
- Partner with project finance team, lenders and investors to coordinate capital raises.
- Partner with Operations on development projects, active construction and operational assets to ensure proper accounting across the project life cycle.
- Manage intercompany eliminations and consolidated reporting across multiple subsidiaries, both for audit and tax purposes.
- Collaborate with auditors to ensure all requested documents are available on time and result in favorable audit reports.
- Partner with external tax preparers to assure corporate income tax compliance and optimization while overseeing the accurate and timely completion of all entity/partner tax returns and forms.
- Prepare cash forecasting and capital budgeting analysis by partnering with other departments.
- Collaborate with development team and our registered agent on LLC formation and tracking.
- Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that fosters an environment of employee growth and development.
- Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, adhering to required standards.
- Develop and execute continuous improvement initiatives and workflows, including enhancement to NetSuite ERP system.
- Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
- Solid analytical skills to identify and communicate trends, develop strategies and solve problems as we continue to grow.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting
- Minimum of ten (10) years of accounting experience required
- Renewable energy industry experience a plus
- Construction or manufacturing industry (job cost & POC) experience preferred
- CPA and public accounting experience preferred
- Proficient Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Word and Excel
- Exposure to NetSuite ERP a plus including posting journal entries, entering transactions and running reports
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple requests at one time
- ERP implementation experience a plus
- Ability to identify internal control weaknesses and strengthen as needed
The salary range for this role reflects the broad array of factors considered in making compensation decisions. These factors include, but are not limited to, skill sets, experience, training, licensure, and certifications, as well as other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $150K-200K. At SunVest, it is uncommon for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, as compensation decisions are tailored to the specifics of each case.
