Position Overview:

SunVest’s Development team is responsible for generating new opportunities for ground and roof top solar arrays as well as battery storage in preparation for our construction department.

As the VP of Development based in our Chicago HQ, you will report directly to the Chief Development Officer and work closely with other team members to refine development processes, manage project pipelines, foster external partnerships, and advance energy storage initiatives. Your expertise in development will be pivotal to SunVest’s ongoing success, contributing to our sustainable growth strategy and the development of strategic plans for managing and improving renewable energy generation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the execution of solar energy projects through late stage development phases, ensuring they meet performance targets.
  • Lead presentation of projects to SunVest’s project approval committee
  • Maintain an average 6-month timeline from project initiation to development complete.
  • Refine and enforce compliance with SunVest’s development processes.
  • Maintain up-to-date development checklists for all projects.
  • Develop and manage a functional project development dashboard.
  • Ensure a 0% project failure rate post-Development Complete.
  • Oversee the advancement of energy storage projects to Development Complete.
  • Collaborate with the Project Finance team to expand SunVest’s project pipeline through acquisitions and strategic partnerships.
  • Secure  executed term sheets, perform due diligence and negotiate definitive documents for acquisition and partnership opportunities.
  • Timely achievement of project milestones (MWdc targets, timelines).
  • Compliance with development processes and maintenance of accurate project documentation.
  • Successful deployment of energy storage projects to PAC approval.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of renewable energy project development, with a strong track record of delivering large-scale solar projects.
  • Strong understanding of energy storage and its integration into solar energy projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate partnerships and negotiate M&A deals.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Expertise in project management, including the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated excellent time management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and adhere to strict deadlines; we appreciate candidates who can adapt to changing priorities without compromising the quality of their work
  • A deep passion for the renewable energy sector and a principled approach to fostering sustainable energy solutions

The salary range for this role reflects the broad array of factors considered in making compensation decisions. These factors include, but are not limited to, skill sets, experience, training, licensure, and certifications, as well as other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $150-220K. At SunVest, it is uncommon for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, as compensation decisions are tailored to the specifics of each case.
