Job Description

Climate United Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (“Climate United”), is seeking a full-time Associate, Direct Pay Program to direct, coordinate and effectuate our direct pay initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Portfolio Compliance, the Associate will play a critical role in developing and implementing compliance strategies to uphold programmatic requirements and statutory obligations related to direct pay initiatives. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive framework tailored to direct pay initiatives, ensuring adherence to programmatic and statutory requirements. 

  • Prepare and file tax forms essential for CUF to claim tax credits, ensuring compliance with current tax laws and regulations. 

  • Maintain awareness of filing deadlines and payment schedules, ensuring timely submission of tax forms 

  • Organize and manage tax records meticulously, adhering to CUF’s standards and regulatory mandates. 

  • Assist in tax audits by compiling and organizing pertinent financial information and documentation.  

  • Serve as the primary liaison for direct pay compliance matters, fostering collaborative relationships with stakeholders and facilitating effective communication channels. 

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, investments and legal departments, to operationalize the direct pay program. 

  • Conduct regular reviews and assessments of direct pay compliance controls, identifying opportunities for enhancement and optimization. 

  • Stay abreast of changes in federal tax regulations and grant requirements pertinent to direct pay initiatives, adapting compliance strategies accordingly. 

  • Promote a culture of compliance and ethics within the organization, raising awareness and understanding of compliance obligations among staff members. 

 

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in program compliance or federal grant management, with a focus on direct pay initiatives. 

  • Knowledge of tax laws and regulations, preferably with coursework in taxation. 

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for accurately preparing and maintaining tax records. 

  • Understanding of relevant federal regulations governing direct pay initiatives a plus.  

  • Proven track record in designing and implementing compliance programs within complex organizational structures. 

  • Strong leadership abilities, demonstrated through effective team management and development. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization. 

  • Strategic mindset with the capability to align compliance initiatives with organizational goals and mission. 

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. 

  • Passionate about the mission and work of Climate United, Calvert Impact, and committed to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. 

  • Willingness to travel up to 30%, primarily within the US, and ability to work from the Washington, DC area or be willing to come into the office quarterly for team collaboration.
