Job Description

Climate United Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (“Climate United”), is seeking a full-time Chief Operating Officer (COO).  Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for building and managing the team responsible for executing the strategy for Climate United and overseeing program and portfolio implementation in alignment with the program’s stated objectives and desired outcomes. Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be accountable for developing an internal team and culture that can implement the Climate United strategy with professionalism, quality, and excellence, balancing impact, risk management, and financial sustainability. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for the organizational execution of Climate United’s strategy against the stated program objectives and outcomes of the National Clean Investment Fund and Climate United’s portfolio and organizational strategy  

  • Act as a close partner to the CEO and management team to build a culture of organizational excellence, balancing robust internal systems and controls with a spirit of mission and innovation to drive an equitable clean energy transition  

  • Responsibility for managing core internal functions and leaders including compliance, risk, technology, and people functions 

  • Accountability for Climate United’s operational execution of the grant agreement with the EPA as a selectee of the National Clean Investment Fund program 

  • Manage relationships with key EPA contacts  

  • Manage relationships with other key stakeholders (e.g., other public agencies, Coalition Partners, etc.)   

  • Represent the Climate United brand and strategy externally at conferences, convenings, and speaking engagements 

  • Coordination and communication with the Climate United Board of Directors to keep them informed and able to serve their duties, with a focus on reporting on internal policies, procedures, and progress against core objectives 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Deep experience and credibility in community and/or climate finance in operational and/or leadership roles  

  • Significant experience with internal operations, risk management, internal controls, and compliance, ideally with specific experience working with or managing a large federal grant 

  • Experience managing large scale public-private partnerships and balancing the needs of a broad set of stakeholders  

  • Experience managing a team of financial services, compliance, risk, and operations professionals  

  • Experience building new businesses and/or organizations, with a focus on operations and infrastructure to ensure a strong culture of risk management, compliance and controls  

  • Passionate about the mission and work of Climate United, Calvert Impact, and committed to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. 

  • Willingness to travel up to 30%, primarily within the US, and ability to work from the Washington, DC area or be willing to come into the office quarterly for team collaboration.
