Climate United will use funding from the EPA under the Inflation Reduction Act to rapidly deploy low- and zero-emission products, technologies, and services to all American communities in order to (1) reduce GHG emissions and other forms of air pollutants; (2) bring direct benefits to American communities in the form of energy security, energy savings, cleaner air, and quality jobs; and (3) transform the capital markets so they can drive an equitable clean energy transition at scale. Climate United will focus its investments in Distributed Power Generation and Storage, Building Decarbonization and Electric Transportation. Calvert Impact, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (“Calvert Impact”), is the sole member of Climate United. The successful candidate will be employed by Calvert Impact or one of its subsidiaries.

 

Key Responsibilities:   

  • Collaborate across the Climate United Community, Investments, and Compliance teams and the Calvert Impact IMM and product teams to develop and implement emissions reductions methodologies, tools, and procedures, utilizing best practices and standards where appropriate such as the GHG Protocol, Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF), World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and Project Frame 

  • Play a pivotal role in designing and managing Climate United’s quality assurance process and liaising with the EPA, ensuring Climate United collects quality data across all portfolio segments and coalition partners 

  • Help Climate United to ensure we reach our emissions reductions targets and accurately report performance data to stakeholders 

  • Design a process that works long-term for all stakeholders: the EPA, Calvert Impact and our coalition partners, our community lender partners, and the community-based projects we will be financing 

  • Support on scope 1-3 emissions reporting and support transaction partners in estimating their emissions 

  • Collaborate with the Investments team to build emissions reduction projection tools to support in pipeline prioritization and target setting 

  • Develop relationships with coalition partners and standard setters to ensure methodologies iterate over time and Climate United has a voice in informing industry standards 

  • Support on emissions and emissions reduction scoping exercises for other Calvert Impact business lines 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Has at least 3+ years of experience, with 6+ years of experience preferable, working specifically on emissions scoping, emissions reduction, and/or carbon accounting projects;  

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or studies, engineering, business, mathematics, or related field 

  • Passionate about the mission and work of Climate United, Calvert Impact, and our commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion   

  • Superb analytical skills 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools such as Excel and PowerPoint, with additional software and analytics expertise preferred, particularly in relation to carbon accounting 

  • Strong technical expertise and experience using the GHG Protocol, Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF), World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Project Frame, and/or other carbon accounting standards 

  • Collaborative and sharing nature, can-do attitude, flexible, comfortable with ambiguity and multi-tasking 

  • Is a self-starter and is able to drive large and complex projects and programs from start to finish in coordination with a broader team  

  • Is intellectually curious, combined with a good sense of humor, high integrity, and team orientation (“We” vs “I” mentality) 

  • Has a positive, “can-do” attitude focused on implementing solutions 

  • Be a positive contributor to our high-performing, self-starting, no-ego, mission-driven culture
