U23 Women’s Selection Development Camp Assistant Coaches: 2 positions available with a focus on coach mentorship.

Location: Ann Arbor, MI

Duration: 

Position 1: June 26-July 3 2024

Position 2: July 3 -July 10, 2024

Compensation: $1250 per coach, plus room and board. Some travel assistance is available.

Position Overview:

The USRowing U23 SDC Assistant Coaches will support our U23 Selection Development rowers on their development journey to compete at the highest levels of international competition, while also learning more about the USRowing Long-Term Development Athlete Model (LTAD). The U23 SDC Assistant Coaches will play a critical role in developing talent, while also learning from their coaching peers about next steps in the USRowing Pathway towards elite level competition and training.

Key Responsibilities: 

Training Plan Development:

●   Contribute to designing training sessions that focus on skill development, physical conditioning, team cohesion, mental strategy, and competitive racing.

●   Lead and collaborate with the coaching staff to ensure a well-rounded and holistic training program and consistent policies.

Collaborate with Head Coaches: Work closely with the SDC Team Head Coaches to implement the camp's vision and training plans.

Collaborate on athlete selection and lineup creation for simulated internal Trials

 

Athlete Development:

 Focus on long-term athlete development, including technical, physical, and mental aspects of rowing.

○ Provide guidance and mentorship to athletes to help them reach their full potential.

○ Promote a positive and athlete-centered approach to coaching and development.

Coaching and Development:

● Lead on-water and off-water coaching sessions for the U23 SDC team, focusing on technical improvement, performance optimization, and development mindset.

● Provide constructive feedback and guidance to athletes to support their individual development.

● Foster a positive and motivating team culture that encourages excellence and sportsmanship.

Learn and engage with guest coaches, other assistant coaches, visiting coaches, and U23 SDC Head Coaches.

Competition and Selection:

● Assist in the running of matrices and simulated Trials format depending on position/schedule.

● Evaluate athlete performance during trials and competitions to make informed selections, alongside head coaches and in compliance with USRowing’s protocols designed by the Chief High Performance Officer.

● Prepare all lineups for internal competition, including strategy development and mental preparation.

Administration and Communication:

● Maintain accurate records of athlete progress, attendance, and other relevant data in accordance with U23 SDC Team Selection Procedures.

● Communicate regularly and directly with all coaches and athletes to provide updates on the program and individual progress.

● Assist in the management of logistics related to travel, equipment, and other team needs in accordance with other U23 SDC Head Coaches and staff.

Qualifications:

● 3-5 years coaching experience in a collaborative coaching environment, prioritizing team cohesion and athlete-centered coaching at the junior or collegiate level.

● Strong knowledge of rowing techniques, training methodologies, and the competitive landscape, but seeking to learn more.  Strong understanding of long-term athlete development principles.

● Exceptional communication and leadership skills.

● Ability to motivate and inspire athletes to reach their full potential in a mindful and holistic approach.

● Organizational skills to manage team logistics and administrative tasks.

● USRowing Level 2 Coach Certification required by the start of camp date. An applicant on the path to acquiring Level 3 Coach Certification is preferred.

Reporting Structure:

U23 Selection Development Camp Assistant Coaches will report to the U23 Selection Development Head Coaches, who in turn report to the USRowing Director of High-Performance Pathways.
