USRowing is a nonprofit organization recognized by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee as the national governing body for the sport of rowing in the United States. The organization’s mission is to steward, strengthen, and grow American rowing by championing performance and igniting new passion for the sport.
USRowing selects, trains, and manages the teams that represent the U.S. in international competition. The organization serves multiple constituencies including novice learn-to-rowers, parents of rowers, masters rowers, adaptive rowers, collegiate rowers, indoor rowers and, most recently, coastal rowers.
We are focused on growing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the sport of rowing on a national scale, on increasing support for our national team programs, and providing additional benefits and value to our over 75,000 individual members and nearly 1,300 rowing clubs.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our executive team. The CFO will play a crucial role in managing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring financial sustainability, and providing strategic financial guidance to support our mission and growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Strategy. Develop and execute comprehensive financial strategies that align with USRowing's vision, mission, values, and objectives.
- Financial Management. Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, payroll, and financial systems, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Budget Oversight. Lead the annual budgeting process, monitor budget performance, and make strategic financial decisions to support USRowing's goals.
- Compliance and Reporting. Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, tax laws, and reporting requirements, including the preparation and submission of IRS Form 990.
- Audited Financials. Manage the process of preparing audited financial statements, working closely with external auditors to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Investment and Asset Management. Manage USRowing's investments and assets prudently, optimizing returns while minimizing risks.
- Financial Leadership. Provide leadership and guidance to the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
- Data Analysis. Utilize data and analytics to measure the effectiveness of financial strategies and overall investments across the organization.
- Budget Ownership. Actively own and manage the financial budget, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and delivering a compelling return on investment.
- Stakeholder Engagement. Collaborate with the Board of Directors and external partners to communicate financial performance, strategies, and ensure transparency in financial matters, including audited financials and IRS Form 990.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 12 years of relevant finance and accounting experience, with at least seven years in a leadership role.
- Proven experience in a senior financial leadership role; non-profit experience preferred.
- Strong financial acumen with a track record of strategic financial planning, controllership, and budget management.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective leadership and team management abilities.
- Superior communication and presentation skills, including the ability to distill.
- Superior command of financial management, data analysis, and other quantitative skills.
