USRowing selects, trains, and manages the teams that represent the U.S. in international competition. The organization serves multiple constituencies including novice learn-to-rowers, parents of rowers, masters rowers, adaptive rowers, collegiate rowers, indoor rowers and, most recently, coastal rowers.

Job Summary:

The Zagunis Family Embedded Scientist (ES) is a highly analytical and organized person who enables the high-performance coaches to optimize training and racing from a biomechanical and physiological point of view. The ES ensures durable progression by means of direct feedback and elaborate analysis.

The ES has excellent knowledge of effective systems for biomechanical and physiological monitoring and testing, data collection, information sharing, and project management. The ES possesses excellent written and verbal communications skills and has the ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all data streams regarding athlete characteristics, biomechanics, physiological testing, training and racing.
  • Develop and maintain a data warehouse that can be queried in every possible way to support the high-performance program with a data-driven approach.
  • Provide requested analysis and media in the daily training environment and during selection and racing.
  • Manage and maintain all involved measurement and testing equipment.
  • Collaborate with Learning & Development to develop educational material on biomechanics and physiology.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science highly preferred; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of the sport of rowing, specifically in the field of biomechanics and physiology.   
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills, accuracy and efficiency.
  • Extensive experience in system design and development.
  • Good knowledge of data infrastructure and implementation across the information lifecycle, including collection, storage, preparation, synthesis, and presentation.
  • Practical programming skills in multiple programming languages; experience with MatLab and Python preferred.
  • Ability to work across teams, with various partners, to achieve success.
  • Exceptional communication skills.

Salary Range:

$95,000 – $105,000
