NatGLC Western Grazing Program Manager

Come join the National Grazing Lands Coalition (NatGLC) Team! In support of livestock producers and grazing lands in the West, we are seeking a Program Manager to work with the NatGLC team and regional partners to implement the Western Grazing Network (WGN), a NatGLC program, that provides livestock producers in the program area technical assistance and financial assistance to enhance the full suite of ecosystem services on their operations, including GHG benefits. This position, the Program Manager, will assist the Director of Western Programs in managing the entire program, from working with Local Coordinators located in Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona to providing guidance and training for producers on the implementation of climate-smart management strategies on grazing lands, to working with the broader WGN team in implementing robust monitoring, measurement, reporting, verification (MMRV), marketing of climate-smart livestock and their products, and reporting on deliverables. The Program Manager will collaborate with others on future developments of the program. The WGN is currently funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Climate-smart Commodities Partnership Program. These grants fund the program over five years. 

Essential Requirements & Responsibilities:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience required 

  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a project or program manager. 

  • Minimum of 2 years experience managing people.

  • Manage a team of technical assistance coordinators to implement and achieve the goals of the Western Grazing Network Program funded through USDA’s Partnerships for Climate Smart Commodities Program. 

  • The Program Manager will manage the day-to-day activities, team, budget, and progress of the program toward its goals. The Program Manager is responsible for analyzing risks, creating schedules, developing and monitoring budgets, managing stakeholders, and identifying trends or situations that could materially impact the ability to achieve the goals of the program. 

  • Coordinate, support, and manage the team of place-based Local Coordinators responsible for rancher outreach and recruitment, technical assistance delivery, and grant deliverables.

  • Monitor and manage partner agreements, reimbursement requests, and relationships.

  • Identify and collaborate on the development of opportunities to grow the program sustainably.

  • Ability to stay organized in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

  • Utilize Excel and other Office Suite programs to provide detailed monitoring and analysis.

  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.

  • Familiarity with western grazing operations and producers. 

  • Adaptable and able to move work forward within complex political and multi-jurisdictional landscapes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail-oriented, strong independent work ethic; and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to distill complex subject matter to any audience for comprehension.

  • A creative and positive approach to communication and problem-solving.

  • Experience working for or with a government entity or nonprofit specializing in natural resource management and/or agriculture.

  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required. 

  • Willingness and ability to maintain confidential information and work with diverse populations.

Working Environment/Physical Activities: The work environment is an office setting and outdoors. Physical activities include sitting at a desk and working on a keyboard and computer several hours a day; conducting business over the computer and telephone; standing for long periods; and traveling long distances by vehicle (including traveling on unpaved roads). This position may also require moving materials up to 25 pounds. This position requires the ability to enunciate clearly, facilitate meetings, and interface professionally with the public.

  • While we offer a remote and flexible work environment this position is a full-time, salaried position keeping typical business hours when not traveling. Travel may be up to 25%.

  • This position is subject to the travel, procurement, conflict of interest, code of ethics, and other policies of the organization.

  • This position reports to NatGLC’s Director of WGN. 

Salary & Benefits: 

  • Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000
