Position Summary

The Director of Marketing – Retina is a high-impact, strategic leadership role responsible for orchestrating the marketing strategy, brand architecture, and tactical execution for Théa’s expanding retina portfolio. This individual will lead the comprehensive market preparation and commercialization efforts for the historic launch of Thea’s first buy-and-bill product, CYKLX.

This position requires an entrepreneurial, metrics-driven marketing executive with deep expertise in the retina therapeutic area and buy-and-bill mechanics. The Director will oversee Thought Leader Liaisons (TLLs), manage creative agencies, lead market research, and build robust HCP, Consumer, and Private Equity marketing strategies to ensure a flawless market entry.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Launch Strategy & Tactical Execution (CYKLX)

  • Launch Campaigns: Architect and execute the comprehensive global positioning, branding, and core messaging framework for CYKLX.
  • HCP & Consumer Omnichannel Tactics: Lead the creation of all healthcare professional (HCP) and consumer/patient launch tactics, including digital, print, point-of-care, and interactive educational materials.
  • Media Strategy: Develop and oversee a sophisticated, targeted media deployment strategy across programmatic digital display, medical journals, and search engine marketing (SEM).

 

2. Thought Leadership & Peer-to-Peer Marketing

  • Thought Leader Liaison (TLL) Management: Direct and manage the TLL team to ensure compliant, high-impact field engagement with regional and national Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).
  • Speaker Bureau Creation: Establish, train, and maintain the official CYKLX Speaker Bureau, ensuring strict compliance, high-quality clinical delivery, and strategic geographic coverage.
  • Congress & Convention Strategy: Design and execute a commanding presence at major medical congresses (e.g., ASRS, AAO, Retina Society), overseeing scientific booth design, product theaters, and corporate sponsorship opportunities.

 

3. Insights, Analytics & Agency Oversight

  • Market Research: Lead all primary and secondary market research initiatives to extract deep behavioral insights from retina specialists, patients, and practice managers.
  • Creative Agency Management: Identify, onboard, and manage the agency of record (AOR) and specialized digital/production vendors, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and on strategy.

 

4. Managed Markets, Reimbursement & Private Equity Strategy

  • Market Access Collaboration: Partner intimately with the Market Access team to proactively identify marketplace gaps, resource needs, and customized pull-through marketing tactics.
  • Payer & Reimbursement Alignment: Work closely with the Reimbursement team to create impactful value dossiers, co-pay assistance collateral, and hub marketing resources supporting buy-and-bill dynamics.
  • Private Equity (PE) Marketing Strategy: Formulate specific commercial marketing strategies tailored to corporate stakeholders at private equity-backed retina management platforms and large consolidated mega-practices.

  • Buy-and-Bill Economics: Deep mastery of J-codes, specialty distribution, and ASP-based practice workflows.
  • KOL Engagement: Nurturing tier-1 academic relationships and maximizing thought leader advocacy.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Aligning seamlessly with Sales, Training, Medical Affairs, and Regulatory teams.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced scientific degree strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of commercial marketing experience within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device industries.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of dedicated experience in the Retina or Ophthalmology marketplace is strictly required.
  • Launch & Buy-and-Bill Track Record: Proven success launching an injectable or buy-and-bill biologic asset in a highly competitive specialist landscape.
  • Travel requirement: up to 35% including frequent visits to Waltham office for collaboration and visibility.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires prolonged sitting. Additionally, requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity enough to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and vision to record, prepare, and communicate appropriately. Additional physical requirements include hearing spoken communication clearly.

For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting pay for this role is between $185k to $250k. The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors.
