Senior Accountant

Role Description

Reporting to the Briefly Legal Support (“Briefly”) Controller, the Senior Accountant will serve as the right-hand support to the Controller to support all things Briefly-accounting related. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate accounting entries, compliance with regulations, and contributing data and analysis to financial decision-making. Must have a working knowledge of general ledger accounts, intercompany reconciliations, and consolidated financial statements. Must have experience with annual external financial audit.

 

What you’ll do:

General Ledger Management:

  • Oversee the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records, prepare journal entries and oversee month-end closing.
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

 

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budget, quarterly reforecasts, and cash flow projections

 

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Provide insightful variance analysis and explanations for financial performance.

 

Compliance, Tax and Auditing:

  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
  • Assist in coordinating external annual audits and income tax preparation by providing necessary documentation.

 

Process Improvement:

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Streamline financial reporting processes to meet evolving business needs.

 

Financial Analysis:

  • Conduct detailed financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Provide recommendations for cost reduction and revenue enhancement.

 

Qualifications:

  • Four years’ experience and a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Intermediate level understanding of current US GAAP accounting
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • 2-4 years public accounting experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Sage Intacct accounting software strongly preferred.
  • Highly proficient in Excel
  • Work experience in professional or legal services industry is a plus
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks assigned, while ensuring the accuracy of work and completion within designated deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Exhibit good decision-making skills and be a strong contributor to the accomplishment of goals and priorities
  • Be open to change to improve processes, strengthen controls and gain efficiencies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
