The Social Media Intern will support Imagine!’s Communications & Marketing team by helping create, schedule, and track social media content across key platforms. This internship is designed as a learning-focused, mentored experience with meaningful, real-world responsibilities.
The Social Media Intern works closely with the Communications & Marketing Manager to support Imagine!’s social media presence on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook, and other channels. This role is ideal for a student interested in social media, digital storytelling, marketing, or nonprofit communications who wants hands-on experience in a supportive environment.
This role supports both the ongoing evolution and day-to-day execution of Imagine!’s social media strategy and content governance system. The intern will collaborate with our Communications team to refine workflows, apply brand standards, and strengthen approval processes to ensure timely, accessible, and mission-aligned content. This role is ideal for a student interested in social media, digital storytelling, marketing, or nonprofit communications who wants hands-on experience in a supportive environment
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Content Creation & Scheduling
- Work from master social media calendar and tracking sheet
- Draft posts at least one week in advance when possible
- Maintain and update social media tracking document
- Develop and manage placeholder content library
- Ensure consistent hashtag usage (#ImagineColorado + campaign tags)
- Include alt text and accessibility descriptions in every post
- Confirm all images are from approved photo library and have releases (per brand standards)
Visual & Video Support
- Create simple graphics using Canva templates (training provided)
- Assist with short-form video content (e.g., iPhone videos, Reels, simple edits)
- Help select and organize photos and videos that align with Imagine!’s brand and values
- Follow Imagine! brand standards for logo use, colors, typography
- Ensure logo placement and sizing follow guidelines
- Upload all approved assets to shared drive per process
Engagement and Monitoring
- Review comments, DMs, and mentions during assigned shifts
- Escalate sensitive, media, policy, or donor-related comments to supervisor
- Maintain respectful nonpartisan, values-aligned tone in all responses
- Flag questions, trends, or engagement opportunities for the Communications team
Analytics and Learning
- Assist with basic social media reporting (reach, engagement, impressions)
- Help identify what types of content perform well
- Participate in conversations about tone, accessibility, and storytelling best practices
- Track engagement, reach, and impressions as assigned / agreed upon
- Assist in identifying trends and content performance patterns
- Support development of recommendations for improved outcomes
Brand and Compliance Responsibilities
- Use approved logo variations
- Follow color and typography standards
- Confirm photo release compliance before posting as needed
- Provide alt text/image descriptions for accessibility
- Maintain people-first, inclusive language
