Purpose of Position
As a Prep Cook, you’ll help create nutritious, delicious meals in a welcoming environment that values dignity, inclusion, and teamwork. Your work will directly support the health and well-being of our residents and guests, while contributing to a broader vision of community-based support and opportunity.
The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals according to planned menus and dietary guidelines. This role ensures safe food handling, high-quality preparation, and a positive dining experience for all. You’ll work in a collaborative kitchen environment that emphasizes respect, learning, and shared purpose.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Prepare meals according to standardized recipes and menu plans
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines (local, state, and federal)
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently (e.g., ovens, slicers, mixers)
- Ensure meals are served attractively and on time, support residents to their tables with food plates.
- Monitor and record food temperatures and quality
- Ensure the cleanliness of dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Complete kitchen open and closing tasks, including emptying trash, sweeping and mopping floors, and other cleaning duties as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and equipment per cleaning schedules
- Support special events and community meals
- Collaborate with team members and contribute to a positive kitchen culture
- Adapt to changing needs and responsibilities as assigned
- Act as a mentor to new kitchen staff and assist with their orientation/training
