Purpose of Position:

As part of multidisciplinary team, provides therapeutic counseling services to clients with co-occurring neurological disabilities and mental health issues.  Works in close collaboration with coworkers, family, and other support services to ensure that the goals and objectives of each client are met.  Maintains quality of services and ensures services are provided in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Evaluates clients' mental health status based on review of client intake paper work and any existing prior evaluations and testing. Administers intake psychological evaluation to determine current mental health diagnosis.
  • Develops, implements, and updates treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
  • Provides therapy to clients directly to meet current needs based on a treatment plan developed with the client and their team, (if applicable).
  • Works with families and treatment teams as well as providing group therapy when applicable.
  • Monitors the clients' use of medications and communicates with medical staff about any concerns.
  • Provides crisis intervention expertise as necessary.
  • Prepares clients for transition out of therapy.
  • Delivers quality care in a considerate, respectful manner, and assures confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment.
  • Advocates for clients and refers clients, caregivers, or family members to community resources or to specialists.
  • Works with other staff regarding client scheduling, records maintenance and information management.
  • Coordinates and participates in care coordination meetings with multidisciplinary team.
  • Collaborates with other team members to perform clinical assessments, develop treatment plans, and share psychosocial issues affecting treatment.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement programs.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of counseling programs and clients' progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives.
  • Remains knowledgeable on all current developments, regulations, and trends as they relate to mental health therapy, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Prepares and maintains all required treatment records and reports, including initial assessments and ongoing visit notes.
  • Provides clinical supervision to master’s level therapist seeking licensure.

 

Job Qualifications

 

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability:

  • Understanding of the DSM – 5 and current knowledge of mental disorders – symptoms and criteria.
  • General knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks/goals for self and others.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with individuals and groups at all professional levels.
  • Effective and creative problem solver.
  • Ability to work effectively with various technology including word processing software, Internet-based databases, etc.
  • This position requires regular use of a personal mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet.

            Training/Education:

  • Master’s degree in social work required.
  • Must be licensed in Colorado as an LCSW.

            Experience:

  • 2+ years’ experience working in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience providing therapy to individuals with a dual diagnosis preferred.  
  • Understanding of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy and other therapies which are effective in supporting individuals with dual diagnosis.

Working Environment/Physical Activities

  • Office-based with limited amount of remote work (approx. 90% office/ 10% remote)
