Hiring Pay Range: $23.00-23.46/hr 

Full Pay Range: $23.00-27.60/hr 

 

Job summary: 

The Food Market Associate is responsible for participating in day-to-day operations at FIRC’s Food Markets. This position requires: mastering food market software along with Microsoft Office software; lifting up to approximately 50 pounds; being 25 years of age or older, a driver’s license, and the ability to drive a FIRC van between locations in Summit County; weighing and handling food donations and inventory; communicating with the public and volunteers; and abiding by and enforcing appropriate safety protocols. This Food Market Associate will oversee the volunteer operations at the Food Markets including the use of the volunteer database, managing community service hours, plus the interactions with CAFÉ Food Rescue and their volunteers running the Grocery Store Rescue (GSR program from Food Bank of the Rockies).

Primary duties: 

  • Manage FIRC’s volunteer database and software including modifications of postings and updating shifts, hosting orientation and appreciation events, ensuring all volunteer hours are tracked consistently in the database, creating thank you communications, both written and through social media, setting goals to increase our volunteer base and ensuring volunteer positions are created and volunteers feel engaged and recognized in the Food Markets. 

  • Have a positive attitude, provide excellent customer service, engage as an agency-wide team member and diffuse foreseeable situations or interactions that could potentially escalate 

  • Perform all Food Market operations that include, but are not limited to: unloading and receiving food deliveries; weighing and tracking donations; assisting with compost handling, recycling runs and trash pick-ups; inventorying items into the software system; drive the agency vehicle moving food between locations; preparing food boxes for shoppers; checking in shoppers electronically; providing resources and make referrals to clients; picking up food donations as needed; organizing and cleaning Food Market refrigerators and food storage spaces; welcoming volunteers and clients warmly and kindly; and treating everyone with respect and dignity 

  • Work in person at the FIRC Food Market during pre and post shifts and during Food Market open hours 

  • Enforce Food Market operations and rules including cleanliness, safety, and organizational protocols 

  • Utilize technology and ensure timely and accurate data collection from Food Market shoppers  

  • Stay up to date with FIRC emails and communications including maintaining an updated Outlook calendar, Teams messages and Dialpad number 

  • Greet clients, customers, and volunteers, answer questions, establish rapport, and educate shoppers on available resources within and outside of FIRC (such as SNAP, WIC, and other community opportunities 

  • Train and interact with volunteers including educating them on FIRC’s other programs and projects.  

  • Assist in creating, implementing and updating a Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Plan for the Food Markets. 

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Communicate Food Market needs and suggestions for improvement to leadership the Food Market Supervisor and/or Manger 

  • During down time, find projects and jobs to complete, delegate to volunteers and ask what needs to be done 

  • Participate in bi-weekly check-ins and team meetings with Food Systems supervisory staff 

  • Participate and attend both in person and online agency-wide, all-staff meetings and trainings 

  • Provide availability and willingness to work late, nights and occasionally on weekends as deemed necessary by leadership 

  • Assist with the Food Equity Coalition, as needed and implement recommendations 

  • Maintain HIPAA confidentiality at all times 

  • All other duties as assigned, job responsibilities may change 

 

General requirements of the position: 

  • Be 25 years of age or older (for agency vehicle insurance eligibility) 

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record, and reliable year-round transportation along with state-mandated auto insurance. 

  • High School Diploma or GED required 

  • Direct customer service experience required 

  • Experience and familiarity with computer and technology use, including Microsoft 365 suite 

  • Experience working with diverse cultures, communities and people of all backgrounds preferred  

  • Effectively demonstrate effective verbal communication skills, required in English and Spanish
