The Controller will be responsible for the operation and integrity of the organizations’ financial accounting and reporting system; responsible for blending the residents’ health and welfare, fiscal and physical best interests of the property owners and compliance with government regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
·Develop, implement, and maintain
all financial policies and procedures including but not limited to: Accounting
Policy and Procedure Manual; charts of accounts for company and properties
under contract; automated system for multifamily property accounting.
·Establish cash management procedures for contract properties, including but not limited to tracking daily balances, reconciliation of bank statements and the prudent investments of reserve accounts.
·Supervise daily operation of the property accountants including establishing and monitoring internal financial controls.
·Review all financials for contracted properties; revenue and receivables; journal entries; fixed assets schedules; net income required by HUD; supporting schedules for financial statements.
·Work with the Corporate Controller to establish and monitor a system to allow review of all vouchers and supporting documentation for entry into accounts payable; process and sign all checks as needed.
· Recruit, train, motivate and
evaluate property accounting staff and general office administrative support
personnel.
·Direct preparation of annual audit work papers and tax returns for each contracted property as well as annual reporting documents required by government.
· Manage HUD funds and their timely disbursement.
· Prepare and review all budgets for contracted properties with Operational input.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
·Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university.
·Eight years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance, investments, etc. two years of which is in the area of multi-family affordable housing or a closely related field.
·Three years supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
·Hold a current CPA license.
·Working knowledge of computer hardware and both general ledger and property management software. RealPage Preferred
