Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) proudly stands as the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 5,400 TK-College students across 29 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Grant Writer is an essential part of our Advancement team. You will work collaboratively with the Advancement Team, the Impact & Measurement Team, and program staff to communicate BGCP’s impact to institutional funders. You will lead and coordinate the research, development, writing, packaging and submission of grant proposals, developing strategic requests that compellingly connect stakeholder interests and BGCP’s programs and goals.

 

As the ideal candidate, you are a gifted writer and love crafting stories. You are in tune with what makes a message compelling, whether it’s data or a story about a specific program’s impact on a student. You have a commitment to BGCP’s mission and a strong desire to use your skills to communicate our mission and impact externally. 

 

The Grant Writer role is a full-time position based at BGCP’s administrative office in Menlo Park, CA.  

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Chief Advancement Officer to meet financial goals set for the department through managing a portfolio of institutional funders

  • Research prospects for institutional grants and engage staff and Board members to identify prospective partners and create briefs of targeted funding sources 

  • Collaborate with the Impact & Measurement Team and Program Team to identify statistical, analytical and anecdotal data for use in proposals and reports 

  • Work with the Advancement team to codify calendars, workflows, and project plans to ensure effective performance and tracking of all mechanical aspects of grant development, submission and reporting 

  • Engage with on-going grant relationships (ex: meetings, convenings, etc.) and connect BGCP with new funding opportunities 

  • Support other Advancement activities as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of experience in generating revenue through $25,000+ grants with a strong track record of success
  • Experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, program management, communications, or related field  

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate BGCP’s mission and strategies and the benefits of our work with students 

  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment 

  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, while also being a dependable team player 

  • Experience with donor management software (i.e., Raiser’s Edge)  

  • Experience identifying and developing new revenue streams 

  • Experience securing event sponsorship 

  • Strong attention to detail

LOCATION

HYBRID - based in San Mateo County

 

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday-Friday (9am - 5pm)

 

SALARY & BENEFITS

  • Employment Status: Full-Time Salary

  • Pay Range: $85,000 - $95,000 depending on experience (DOE)

  • Health Benefits: Full-Time Employees: BGCP covers 100% of medical, dental, and vision premiums; 50% for dependents

ONBOARDING PROCESS

  • BGCP will cover all onboarding process requirements

  • COVID Vaccination: Preferred but not required

  • Complete LiveScan background check

  • Undergo a TB test

  • Participate in mandatory onboarding training sessions
