Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) proudly stands as the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 5,400 TK-College students across 29 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. POSITION OVERVIEW
We're seeking a creative, positive and self-driven new teammate to bring technology to life for our members. Our Creative Technology Lead, Clubhouse will manage all technology and tech programming that takes place at our Redwood City Clubhouse. This person will lead technology electives that are designed to introduce BGCP members to new technologies that inspire a love for learning and tech. Classes might range from introduction to coding (Scratch, Google’s CS First, Code.org), to design thinking (MacGyver/Design Tech), to video production, blogging, or photography. 

This position will also prepare youth for design competitions like Tech Challenge and the Lego League competition (robotics). You will also work closely with other BGCP staff to leverage their expertise in order to create curricula and provide instruction to youth that are engaging, challenging, and fun.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and source curriculum and design overall program that has high youth appeal and relevancy to both current and future tech trends Prep and plan for daily electives that have clear learning objectives.

  • Lead daily technology electives for 9th-12th grade students

  • Establish and uphold classroom agreements, behavioral management, and student incentive system.

  • Create a positive classroom experience and learning community for youth.

  • Work closely with other BGCP staff to ensure high quality instruction is delivered.

  • In partnership with BGCP’s Head of Technology, manage and maintain all technology equipment at the Redwood City Clubhouse.

  • Introduce new electives based on your own specific interests or skills.

  • Manage signature tech-related projects and competitions.

  • Support the technology/AV needs of BGCP special events, such as Youth of the Year.

  • Develop a youth “media team” that supports all AV set-up at the club, and eventually develops into a content-development team to create audio and video projects for the growth of the students as well as to benefit the organization.

  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment to BGCP’s mission and vision

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in STEM or related field, or five+ years of relevant experience

  • Minimum of one-year successful experience as a teacher and/or administrator in an educational environment

  • Knowledge of effective teaching methods and curriculum development and the ability to design programs to meet the learning needs of high school students

  • Previous leadership experience within a youth development organization

  • A demonstrated ability to coordinate, inspire, and motivate others

  • High level of communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Cultural humility and the desire to learn about the experiences of others

  • Energy, leadership skills, strong initiative, ability to motivate through positive reinforcement

  • Availability to work with some flexibility for occasional evening or weekend events

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, crouching, squating, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 80% walking & standing. Work environment noise level is usually moderate but can be noisy at times. All requirements are subject to reasonable accommodations.

Redwood City Clubhouse

 

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday – Friday, 11:00am – 8:00pm with occasional Saturdays

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Employment Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt

  • Pay Range: $30-34/hr, depending on experience (DOE)

ONBOARDING PROCESS

  • BGCP will cover all onboarding process requirements

  • Complete LiveScan and Checkr background check

  • Undergo a TB test

  • Participate in mandatory onboarding training sessions
